Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“Only a burning patience will lead to the attainment of a splendid happiness.” - Pablo Neruda

Skies have cleared and are streaked pink with periodic puffed clouds. Damp remains though major storms seemed to have passed on. Temp at 50F and no winds felt though their previous romp is visually evident. Palpable energy in the ocean as XL sized NW swell remains firmly situated. Tidal volumes are adequate but have again robbed sand from all crevices. Watch the sea with a full soul and open heart as shapes worth investigation are again present.

CHANNEL:  Wind strewn froth and chop with amplified amounts of water movements. A duo ducks and dodges in hopes of aligning both chi and body to take advantage of cleaner forms. The lack of winds a blessing and the blue above a wonder to behold. Be still in the moment and allow rollers to come and find you as they exist in un-arranged bundles.

PATCH: Initial fortifications with strong caffeinated brew and positivity will yield results. Not completely futile as higher tides allow for W leaning swell portions to enter and expand. The regulars have deemed is passable and therefore it is so.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing.” - Walt Disney

Pitter-patter beats as the rain hums a wet tune on slippery streets. Aerial dark gray backdrops with windy movements from trees dancing back and fourth. Frogs rejoice croaking in chatter discussing today’s top stories while sheep answer from beyond. Not a car in sight, as most already know the answer to the one burning question.

CHANNEL:  Surf drought remains as we are on our third consecutive day without it. Incoming secondary storm delivering wind and rain for much of the day. The Channel’s cycle is stuck on spinning, wash and repeat with the W swell circling around in no particular direction. Best to call it a day and hope for tomorrow.

PATCH:  Frothy white foam top coat swirling in patterns, warm in hands. Taking the first quick sip while settling in a cozy chair, nothing beats a good latte on a rainy day.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“Great things happen when you have the courage to be yourself.” - Michael Sam

Light gray with a silver blue lining and no wind in sight. A new beginning and a fresh start to the first week back to the daily grind in 2019. Feeling the hustle and bustle of morning commuters, school goers line up for bus pickups with joyful parents in tow. Those with resolutions of salty rides, swim against the current. Finding parking with ease could be a sign of what lies beyond the ramp. Only those who commit to the journey will know with certainty.

CHANNEL:  Rough conditions from stormy leftovers and plenty of debris swimming in white water. W swell visible in form of mass confusion, with no peaks or valleys. Still blown out from yesterdays wind, this is the calm before tomorrow’s storm. Best to ride out today on shore and see what comes tomorrow.

PATCH:  Today is a perfect day to dry out those boards, chip away at the layers of wax built up from past sessions and lay a new foundation of intent. Align crystals for maximum power and strength.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“Let the rain sing you a lullaby.” - Langston Hughes

Molted dark gray overhead with sheets of pouring rain falling horizontally from gale force wind. As puddles grow and streets flood, we are thankful for the little things like power and heat. Cold, extremely wet and incredibly windy with temps starting at 52 and not budging throughout the day. Today is not the day to drive over the hill to the beach for any type of water activity, period. Today, the ocean is angry.

CHANNEL:  High wind advisory in full effect, heed the warning! Current is churning and burning from every direction with NO form and NO shape. Dangerous ocean motion in every which way one can imagine. Today is definitely not the day.

PATCH:  It’s Carnival time! Grab your beads, and practice your swagger while eating King Cake. Enjoy every morsel inside where it’s nice and warm and dry.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“Intellectuals solve problems, geniuses prevent them.” - Albert Einstein

Heavy wet stuff finally coming down and situated to stay for a while.  Associated gales from the S are part of the stormy brew as well and have knocked out power.  A full on fierce, frothy and frenzied atmosphere over the foreseeable future days.  A reverberating oceanic mess compounded by winter high tides.  Grand-scale storm swell baring teeth and showing fangs.  Entry and surf attempts at your own peril.

CHANNEL:  No shape, no form, no consistency, no service.  High tide still on the rise and already foaming up the ramp with debris in its wake.  Not quite the surf day weekends were made for.  Try Wait.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“Look up at the stars, not down at your feet.” - Stephen Hawking

Blazing sky initiates the day and again NE winds take hold. The air is clear and vibe mellow while the temp slinks in at 39F. Blue skies and goat bleats of hopeful joy dominate the early hours. A renovated NW swell is trying to make its presence known and felt today. Extra high tides playing some havoc with the efforts but the turnaround is firmly in place and should fuel some opportunities. Enough fluctuation in the water to keep everyone honest and engaged.

CHANNEL:  Slightly shifted and somewhat lifted in parameter and aspect. Pulses pushed along and seeking purchase among the rights leading through the Channel and over to Seadrift. Now just in the thigh high realm and influenced by too much liquid and not enough sand. Outgoing tide about to pull to plug and start to drain. Timing is everything this day.

PATCH: Most hold paddles and stand rigidly in place as only they can. Fully flushed tide has coverage in all areas and possibly a bit too much. The few rollers seen aspire to the calf/knee arena and have a solid shape. Power reduction the current issue which may be resolved later in the day so keep a vigilant eye. Changing weather may play a part in what transpires in the coming hours.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“One can learn nothing unless you proceed from the known to the unknown.” - Claude Bernard

An early chill with light frost descends though quickly quelled by the risen sun and NE winds. Temp now locked in at 40F and the skies hold a clarity that may not last. Early brimming tides now at apex have swallowed the NW swell under the weight of the seas. Generally too much watery brine and not enough power to get the morning started with a portion of stoke. Outgoing tides are just on their way and may open up possibilities undiscovered if you have the free time and patience to allow for the reveal.

CHANNEL:  Light reflections off undulations that fail to transition into breakers of merit. More like a moat with motion but no devotion to host the most needy of sliders clamoring to be upon the waters. Newer NW swell may show upon the drain which has started and will proceed in earnest.

PATCH: Only a lonely and solo paddler has taken the plunge. Shapes of no variety may seem to be in play but a careful observation from a dry post determines otherwise. Any sliding will require strong shoulders or carbon fiber lances to propel forwards and into the smallest of small peaks.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
”The eye sees only what the mind is prepared to comprehend.” - Robertson Davies

Gusty winds greet the new day! Congratulations everybody, we made it through another year. Hug your friends and family, and shake your enemy’s hand. Put the past away, and only retrieve it when needed. Allow yourself to forgive and move forward, for every day is a new beginning. And if that beginning involves surfing, you may need to look someplace else.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“With the new day comes new strength and new thoughts.” -Eleanore Roosevelt

Say farewell to bad habits and hello to new interests. Let today be a day of reflection and not of regret. Set new goals, and aim to be a better you. In town strong NE winds sweep the streets and make it clean, just as we hope the new year will be. Numb toes and fingers pry and tear at frozen wetsuits in hopes to escape, but to no avail. Remnants of swell barely lingers and anything close is pushed down by the wind. It’s the last day of the year, what will you choose to do?

CHANNEL:  Many have ventured, almost all to return windslapped and frozen. Almost thigh high but lasts for only a moment. Hold on tight or you’ll get blown right over the top.

“An enemy can hurt you physically; but if the enemy wants to hurt your heart, you have to help by getting angry.” - Traditional folk saying

51 degrees. Molten lead shimmer, tired eyes squint through glimmer, and a gentle onshore tickles runny noses. Self-assured striders armed with gliders waste no time for a taste of unknown brine, while the prudent student gazes luxuriously port and starboard forever, landlocked by the agony of choice. Tides are friendly, so play today like nobody is watching.

CHANNEL:  Northern Inside Groin Cafe serving up a puree of smoked seekers hungrily stewing in chilled California morning broth, nibbling greedily at leftover crumbs of deviled waves served over a bed of glazed sandbars, teasing the collective palate. Critics with their own personal relish and XL serving spoon could make the most of melting hors d’oeurves. One could leave famished today, depending on the size of the mental stomach. Don’t bite the hand that feeds.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“If you fell down yesterday, stand up today.” - H.G. Wells

Vapor breath / numb toes / nasal drainage / damp neoprene. Overnight chills cool the vibes and bring temp down to 37F. Full sunshine and faint NW breezes will soon have the mercury rising. All eyes scan the horizon for shadows and movements to inspire. Rays of hope from above and around as moderate NW swell accentuates the positive. Waves will be had by practicing patience and persistence.

CHANNEL:  There is swell in place to allow for small lefts off the deeper Channel bar and inside the Groin pole region. Outgoing early tide seeking to shape the contributions which remain firmly rooted at thigh high in their aspect. Take a contemplative moment to compose yourself as timing is everything today.

PATCH: Though minor in height, these rollers hold shape nicely and lengthened rides may be in the offering. Dropping tidal levels are holding firm at adequate and not drained which should keep this area in play most of the day. Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“If you don’t gamble, you’ll never win.” - Aldous Huxley

Soundless morning as all creatures moving about do it in stealth mode. Sneaking up on the illuminated coastline to determine directions for stoke seeking. Picture postcard perfection with lingering fog dissolving, immense bursts of sunshine and 47F. Again easy NE winds to warm and spruce. Swells are mid period and dropping with assistance scheduled for the weekend. Tides remain favorable and the option is yours to take.

CHANNEL:  A reduction in power as the tide recedes. Early offerings show inconsistency as the pattern. Possibilities remain as new swell arrives throughout the day but current slides are short in stature and distance. A solid sandbar continues to flourish along the Seadrift corridor and may be worth an investigation as to its production.

PATCH: Determined foot soldiers from the SUP army making something from well outside nothings while far inside along the Snags a fine right-hander spins alone. A knee high mellowness may be the crowning achievement of the day but if you don’t stop to look around, you might miss it.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“We can complain because the rose bushes have thorns, or rejoice because the thorn bushes have roses.” - Abraham Lincoln

43F with light NE breezes as the skies clear to reveal the full beauty of the morning. Early contemplation along the seawall while small and short period swells provide the entertainment. A reprieve from King Tides but much sand has been stolen back to the sea and gaping cuts can be found along the shore. Tread lightly as you come and go and enjoy the gifts given if they appear.

CHANNEL:  The morning’s highlights, as so observed, can be found here in limited supply. Two distinct sandbars have benefited from ample sand and hold their form while waiting breaker arrivals. An early thin crew on the moderate low tide finding shapes that hold for distances measured in yards. Size has retreated and longboards will be required to obtain regular access. If the template holds, there should be similar slides available in the later afternoon hours as well.

PATCH: Inconsistency but a foundational S swell pulse may be migrating north to grace this landscape. Rare gem rights as forerunners to possibly more are knee high as the norm but will benefit from time and tide. The patient eye and still mind will receive enlightenment and could happen upon a solid ride which is currently an elusive species.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“Before anything else, preparation is the key to success.” - Alexander Graham Bell

A general calmness overtakes the BO this post holiday morning. Lows not too low and highs just under maximum will keep some positivity flowing. Fully cleared skies and breaching sun to begin the warming from our initial 42F. No winds at present but NE potential should keep temps mild. Hefty NW swell begins to scale back and angles of inception do not find us directly. Bodies are observed both suited and booted to take only the smallest treats from the sea offerings.

CHANNEL:  Whitewater curls and forms of the lesser shape gifted for prospective sliding within. A menu with many offerings though portions are meager. Just past low tide and turning on the fill valve may push one toward a new destination undiscovered. Soft and slideable if you bring your log and a PMA.

PATCH: A singular slider with fat, wide board and carbon fiber lance penetrating. Idle time as rollers are few and far between. Liberties are taken and can be enjoyed with tempered enthusiasm and a willingness to share.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“The joy that you give to others is the joy that comes back to you.” - John Greenleaf Whittier

Merry Christmas to everyone.  Wishing you all the joys of the season and happiness throughout the coming New Year. Thank you for your continued support and patronage. We look forward to seeing you in the years to come. The end of the year brings no greater joy than the opportunity to express to you season's greetings and good wishes. May your holidays and New Year be filled with joy. We are CLOSED today to celebrate with friends and family but will be open on Wednesday at 10am.

CHANNEL:  Junky and clunky as the storm hits shore this morning. Rain from above and blown out surf below. Tide is high and still coming in until 12pm as water surges up the ramp with debris. No real peak in the Channel proper as the current moves fast towards the lagoon. Two desperados standing at the boat ramp trying to decide if it’s worth the effort.

PATCH: T’is the day to stay comfy, warm and spread good cheer with family and friends. A time to celebrate being together and enjoying ones company on land, inside from the wind and rain. Pour an extra cup of eggnog and curl up while binge watching the very best Christmas movie ever, Die Hard.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“And the Grinch, with his Grinch-feet ice cold in the snow, stood puzzling and puzzling, how could it be so? It came without ribbons. It came without tags. It came without packages, boxes or bags. And he puzzled and puzzled until his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before. What if Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store. What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more.” - Dr. Seuss

T’was the morning before SurfMas and all along the beach. Not a creature was stirring, not even a starfish. Wetsuits were hung on car doors with care, in hopes the Surf Nicholas soon would be there. When out on the green wall, there arose such a clatter. Drew ran down the beach to see what was the matter. When what to Drew’s wondering eye did appear, but a 10 foot nose glider with a shredder so lively and quick. Drew knew in an instant, it must be Surf Nick. He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work and filled all the wetsuits with good vibes and good surf. And forming his hand in a shakka Drew heard him exclaim, “Happy SurfMas to all, and to all good surf.”

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“The smallest oceans still make big, big waves.” - Eddie Vedder

Candy floss pink, blue and gray hues glowing as the morning sun rises above sending vitamin D engery below. Calm for now and wickedly cool as temps begin at 43. Tides are still crowned King, as roads are covered with water and some freeway exits are closed. Opportunity knocked early this AM for rain and wind are on their way with the negative tide retreat. Double up in extra warm layers, add another espresso shot to your coffee and don’t forget to put the heater on high.

CHANNEL:  King tide roaring up the ramp and creeping into the street. The sea wall is open for business taking casualties for those who don’t have perfect timing. Check your head and know your level before entering. Rising water levels in the Channel creating mushy waves in the thigh height. Incoming current is strong and before you know it, in the lagoon you go. Currently three hopefuls out trying to make their way back in.

PATCH: A small group of Santa’s helpers are out trying to herd reindeer for their last grooming session before tomorrows flight. With out much success, most elves are left going in circles and in opposite directions.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“A vision, without a plan, is just a hallucination.” - Will Rogers

Gleaming morning full of sun salutations in this piece of heaven by the sea. All crystals have been cleansed and recharged with energy to make it through the coming holiday celebrations and welcome a new year. A winter bite as temp slides down to 40F but will slowly warm as the skies are clear and the winds are in refrain. Easing back NW swell still with some persistence can be sourced but incoming tide already softening the blows. Prophesies unfulfilled may come to fruition when all the stars align.

CHANNEL:  Already losing the battle to higher tides and shifting swell parameters. The potential for smooth glide couples with soft rides under these abundant water conditions. Beware the draining tidal suck as it runs fast and falls well below sea level. Awareness of location key in determining whether you realize slides or a one way ticket to Stinson without a return connection.

PATCH: Don’t worry, we’re in no hurry, school’s out, what did you expect? Nature kids, they don’t have no function. I don’t understand what they mean and I could really give a cuss. I will agree they deserve absolutely nothing, nothing more than me. Dreaming, dream, dream, dream, dream….
