Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“Right is right, even if everyone is against it, and wrong is wrong, even if everyone is for it.” - William Penn

Maintained drizzle as we yield to the Winter Solstice and our shortest day. Preparations for Cold Moon crystal charging and vampire sliding already underway. Winds do not blow and temp steady at 55F. Again we begin the day with overwrought tides that have just reached apex and spill onto the roadway with random abandon. We end the day depleted and drained with negative levels reaching far below the equilibrium. Still plenty of swell and water movements just not ideally suited to our slice of coast. We are under abbreviated time frames today so pack it in to make it fulfilling.

CHANNEL:  False impressions as too much tide overwhelms. Swollen rollers are hampered by the extreme and fail to unload their energy. Dominant activity is bird bobbing and wall hounding as the early hours play no favorites.

PATCH: Non generated under steeper NW swell and brimming tide. Just the getting there will be an exercise in timing and temerity with all walls taking repeated blunt force drenchings. The first slider in will be the only slider on it and can lay claim to the domain.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“Strive not to be a success, but rather to be of value.” - Albert Einstein

Clearing skies marked with blue over our piece of paradise and evolving temp starting at 47F. NE winds on the radar to lend a breath of warm air and groom the wild ocean facade. Another swell dose from the NW down to reinforce the formidable forces already at large. King tides showing out and off with frothy ramp play up to street level. Undersized logs and toe cracking stones rolling up and back to lay claim to any sliders lacking spatial awareness.

CHANNEL:  The early combo of too much water + swell cooking up a wavering broth of emptiness. Gulls ride alone and hopeful crabbers use the high tide to exodus and hunt the succulent crustacean. Access is the first challenge to accept if your heart leads you here and exit may need magical powers to complete unscathed. Better prospects may be encountered upon lowering post lunch tides.

PATCH: A lone sliding body taking what is offered and gratefully consuming. Western swell components flooding over the reef under the highest of water levels and making itself known in irregular spaces. The lines are not straight but show some bend and curve with the height if measured reaching a dozen hands.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“It is not length of life, but depth of life.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Dew drops from treetops as mountain mist fills the gaps. Small portions of sun begin to work their way through the coastal coverage. Calm and mild at 54F with no winds but light E bias. Large scale WNW swell holds and continues to pummel coastlines though intensity drops a notch. Peaking morning tide soaks the ramp, eager onlookers and curious sliders. All the while truth mixes with tragic beauty in land and upon the seas.

CHANNEL:  Morning offerings can best be accessed here though it is by no easy measure. High upon the measuring stick and up against all walls of stone and steel. Most debris has been cleared save for that floating on uneven swells. Still lots of energy to work with but an unclean palette remains. Outgoing tide and more time may yield options better suited to wave fruition.

PATCH: If you seek the more mellow vibe among the mass of turbulence and turmoil then turn your sights to the soul Patch. By no means holding any type of configured shape but a lesser evil with easier access. Outgoing tide will do no favors so add to the witch’s brew now and spend a leisurely afternoon draining water from your head.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“Music is a necessity. After food, air, water and warmth, music is the next necessity of life.” - Keith Richards

Water colors painted high in hues of white, gray and blue as the sun hides behind for warmth. A cold and still beginning at 45 as the wind has traveled elsewhere. Curious parked vehicles scattered about as drivers walk to take a peek. Rumbling and mumbling the ocean voices volume to the who speak the language. Not a day to start learning the ropes and those who are seasoned use caution.

CHANNEL:  Smashing and crashing against the sea wall with fanning spray. Flooded with debris, the ramp is slick and unsteady. Lots of energy churning in the Channel with soupy white water as far as the eye can see. One main peak with waves forming in the chest height. Steep on the face with a fast drop and short to finish. Not ideal conditions and only those who are in the know should attempt the journey.

PATCH: Confusion from all signs pointing in different directions. Am I at the fork in the road? Do I go left or right? I can’t read the signs! Best to stay on the beaten path and go the way I know. I may try again tomorrow.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“Some day you will feel what I’m feeling too.” - Me

Hooded heads and smiling faces stand and look towards the rushing sea, as swell and tide collide. Clouds are hovering low but pockets of bright beams squeeze through the cracks and glimmer on the water’s surface. A breeze is keeping the temperature steady for he moment at 55F but be prepared for moisture and cooler weather throughout the day. Bobbing and bumping is the name of the game today as the sets come in ever so frequently with little time in between. Be patient, choose wisely.

CHANNEL:  And they’re off to the races! Full crashes and smashes up against the wall, creating a misty screen between us and our desired view. Use caution heading out as the conditions have a heavy feel this morning. Several are already up to the task, and more will join. Waist + so don’t waste time.

PATCH: 3 little fishies just jumped the gun and took off running. Today is not the day to test the waters for the first time, but the veterans are taking it to their advantage. Although conditions are not ideal, the few slices of stoke are being spread evenly. Keep an eye out for a missing paddle... or don’t.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“Perhaps it is our imperfections that make us so perfect for one another.” - Jane Austen

Turbulent blasts of clammy wind with blakened gray skies begins this day of rest. Temps hovering at 52 with little promise of warmth nor dryness throughout the day. Cement spaces with open faces, offering a ghost town feeling. The sound of mayhem tells the tail of those who are desperate to ask before the gate is even reached. Mega swell gazers needing to check twice just in case, huddle for protection against the angry sea. Not a day for the faint of heart, and staying on land is the key to safety.

CHANNEL:  Melee of driftwood carnage fermenting in open white water as the wind plays havoc with the sea. Choppy and sloppy movements resembling waves going in opposite directions as the WNW swell is losing the fight against the 13 knot SSE wind. Red flag warnings are up and believe in the message. Today is not the day to test Mother Nature.

PATCH:  Stormy days are best spent cozy under blankets. Dress your cat in his favorite festive holiday sweater and watch replays of Team Schuster win the Men’s Curling Champion Final. Riveting and dramatic, sweeping at its finest.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“One person with passion is better than forty people merely interested.” - E. M. Forster

A fair 53F with light SW breezes and partially clearing skies as the morning takes shape. Reset and refreshed as we crawl out from under rocks and covers to assess the scene. An improvement by margins but still on the edge of acceptability. Fresh NW mega swell and a slight S in the background will better show along the coast if and when the seas calm from recent winds. Rolling into a lunchtime lower tide may help the cause which currently has many captivated but few involved.

CHANNEL:  Overwrought with swell and tide making for more mess than shapely forms. A half dozen bodies attempt to manufacture a session out of limited possibilities. Calming winds and receding tide may play to our favor as the day continues.

PATCH:  I was dressed for success, but success it never comes. And I’m the only one who laughs at your jokes when they are so bad. And your jokes are always bad. But they’re not as bad as this. Come join us in a prayer. We’ll be waiting, waiting where everything’s ending here.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“Life is not a problem to be solved, but an experience to be had.” - Alan Watts

Omnipresent winds of change are upon us this morning. Tepid and turbulent with temps up to 58F and an air of menace upon the seas. Unprotected areas feeling the full brunt as the mega NW swell drops a click but continues its assault. Heavy cross winds and overcast skies making for contemplative moments for those about to rock. Currently no souls partaking with the scales tipping towards the negative.

CHANNEL:  The natural forces of nature do not work in our favor today with winds and tide not making much merry. Heavier gusts and vibes seem destined for today with little room for optimism. Remember, no matter where you go, there you are.

PATCH:  Nihilist Delight with no shapes on which to dance. Outside pursuits other than sliding may be worth exploration as the zephyrs exhaust themselves currently.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“Beauty is the only thing that time cannot harm.” - Oscar Wilde

Bright and unflinching sun falls upon our hamlet though temps hover early at 44F. An air of consequence comes along as primary NW swell advances with growth and potential. Huddled masses shuttle and don the damp neoprene in hopes of tempting fate and finding one good slide. Spirits remain high along with the tides and we feel both heavy and weightless with the absurd beauty of it all.

CHANNEL:  Wind spits the crests off wide curlers as they breach along the depths of fuller tides. Shadows fall over the Groin marker as skies remain clear and brilliantly lit. Less now with more later is the growing consensus of those engaged in the sport of kings Don’t think twice, it’s alright.

PATCH:  Despair not as W energies carry an expansive reach and flow over and into this field of dreams. Small but highly slideable rights are in the mix and a growing contingent hovering around a dozen are having a go. The strength of the area remains active with fuller tides which by chance remain all day. Favorable winds now may not hold true as the sand falls through the glass.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“Laughter is the valve on the pressure cooker of life.” - Wavy Gravy

Dew damp and steaming with the fiery orb above beaming down the Vitamin D. Winds are primed from the NE keeping the fog at bay and the temp alive at 49F. Mid week tranquillity finds open parking and a pervasive quiet surround. Faded swells and unwavering tides during all the daylight hours. For those seeking peace and potential slides - today has an open invitation.

CHANNEL:  Any and all activity occurring S of the Groin pole in deeper Channel waters and merging along the Seadrift corridor. Occasional aspects as the NW swell remains but in a weakened state. Smooth and hypnotic though lacking in true intensity. The afternoon may hold more promise upon the receding tides.

PATCH:  Minor traces and familiar faces under streaky skies with unlimited dimension. Illuminated movements allow the determined to find a line and glean some stoke. It is paradise lost with little to no swell and viable in the most modest sense.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“Home is not where you were born; home is where all your attempts to escape cease.” - Naguib Mahfouz

Blazing sun rising over hill tops filling nooks and crannies below. Frigid cold with a low start at 41 as dew drops hang in silence glistening in the sun. Calm and still, the leaves sit motionless on tree limbs as birds huddle for warmth. Parking lot group chats taking place with steeping hot coffee clouds swirling around like thought bubbles. On the seawall light bulbs start to flicker with ideas to muster the energy to change. You’ve made it this far, take the extra step to get wet.

CHANNEL:  Tide swinging high with the usual crash and burn greeting at the ramp. Once the quick jump and long paddle is made to the Channel, cleaner sets starts to appear. WNW swell hanging around and waves rolling in thigh height on the outside. Long periods of waiting in between with the current moving everything forward out of position. Inside is messy and frothy with no shape or form. Make a mental note of where you are parked.

PATCH:  Disorganized and mismatched. Looks like some spring cleaning needs to be done in winter time. Start with the basics; a good label maker, identical containers and a well thought out plan. There is a place for everything and everything has a place.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“Hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul - and sings the tune without words - and never stops at all.” - Emily Dickinson

Dark gray sizzle from morning drizzle as the sun is tucked away. Warmer start at 52 as those who make their way are slick in layers. Calm with no breeze, trees stand proud and tall. Parking with an ebb and flow, though most are heading over the hill to start check lists and to-do’s. The chosen few, who are on their own schedule, walk down the ramp for a peek and moment of solitude. Atop the wall we gaze out to the salty sea with bated breath and watch the show.

CHANNEL:  Tide coming in hot this morning with debris scattered up the boat ramp. A quick dip and paddle is in order to avoid contact with the sea wall. Strong W swell rolling in with half a dozen out exhausting paddle muscles trying to churn through the soupy white water. Messy on the inside with no shape or form. Outside is the best side as quick steep rides in the thigh height can be had if you find the spot. Lots of churn and burn on today’s menu.

PATCH:  Frothy white salty tops swirled around in a perfect latte patterned design. Slightly bitter with the first sip and strong and smooth on the finish. Definitely well worth the wait in line and the $10 price tag.

Filtered light blue through shades of gray and white as the sun shyly rises behind. A light breeze carrying holiday cheer through town as bazzar vendors set up to peddle their goods. A cold start to the festivities at 45 with temps climbing all the way to 55. Layered up in faux fur and tassels dressed for the occasion, while dawn patrol crew members neoprene glisten with salty glitter. Whichever costume or outfit is chosen all have the best accessory in common; big smiles all around.

CHANNEL:  Kayaks, canoes and SUP’s oh my! A flotilla of large water craft out numbering proned paddlers as the WNW swell swings in with high tide. Ruffly on the surface with a light breeze, waves coming in the knee height through Channel Proper. Thigh high size coming in on the Sea Drift side, attracting most visitors. Which ever flotation device you choose, make sure to follow the rules and practice safety is first.

PATCH:  It’s black Friday on a Sunday, with bobbing black hooded shoppers waiting to be first in line. Onshore taking another day off so that all may achieve angled take off. Lot full, some may take a long walk. Posted cloud breathers speak through steam and it appears rights the best and lefts the dream. If you drove all this way, you might as well get wet. Grab a number. Soon yours will be called.

CHANNEL:  Incoming tide has yet to undermine coastal bouy’s consensus reality of formerly bombastic winter North West. Suited enthusiasts harvest sets of ellipses with periods long enough to be underscores, defying common typeface classification, bubbling in briny fonts only. The seekers, seemingly stranded, endure the pause, the eternal comma, squinting to see the distant parallel lines of a collective future. With a little faith, they’ll arrive in exclamation.

PATCH:  Outsiders slathered outside grunt and gnash as energy passes under their stomachs and through their fingers. Insiders standing inside find the glide meant for masses, yes, that is where the stoke lingers. Be them prone, tall, or mid-falll, all ride the mind tide, so what one sees is what one gets. High tide vectors mix with concrete connectors as the fortunate few plot and plan. Rays from about cut through the wistful mist as a guiding light and call to arms. Whitewater walls still dance upon blacktop but early access has participants outnumbering bystanders exponentially. Parking already thinning as brigades arrive to replace and replenish the growing squad. Judgement, assessment and mad dashes into the fracas should be rewarded with the ultimate bounty of a smile.

CHANNEL:  Broad bombora faces give a moments pause as the growing tide seeks to unload its cargo. Quavering sections need navigation to find a suitable zone to allow for proper landings. Jump off from the highest turnbuckle and suplex the swell. There are some heavier helpings to feast upon if a measured approach to quality over quantity is abided by.

PATCH:  A cavalcade of logs already calling the Patch home with scattered rides of distinction evidenced. The outlines cast indicate a classic day for single-finned beasts and NW breezes to keep it clean. As the moth to the flame the attraction grows and awareness of one’s surroundings may be paramount as the inside shore-break gains momentum and size.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
’’It is easier to go down a hill than up it but the view is much better at the top.” - Henry Ward Beecher

New dawn, new day, new beginnings to investigate as a sun kissed sky greets all. Clarity as far as one can see and the brilliant morning colors of fall while the air rises and warms us to 56F. Slack winds now and NE later allow for further grooming on the outgoing tides. At current tidal levels, those heeding the siren’s call must be nimble and proficient or risk shattered foam and wounded knees.

CHANNEL:  Fading NW swell re-backed and financed with forthcoming advances. Current shapes play a hand that suggests reason for hope under outgoing timelines. Now the bluff is easily revealed with the initial show folding quickly into defeat. If you go, find a line, bide your time and seek a metaphysical sedative.

PATCH:  A gathering tribe here as the lesser of two evils. With filling tide fueling the splash and dash a mellow joy can be found if one ties expectations to viewed reality. Southerly windswell, a product of recent days, has slow rollers outside willing to shake off the water density and push the determined with mostly chaotic ramblings and cosmic gambling.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
’’Action is the foundational key to all success.” - Pablo Picasso

Persistent and tremendous winds roaming freely through the night have resumed their assault on all things not tied down. Gusts swirling in directions with no clear path to clarity. Light rain has again fallen to re-moisturize. The ocean presents a churning miasma of dismay and disarray. Abandoned parking but do not give up on hope as one needs something to cling to after the storm exhausts.

CHANNEL:  Unkempt, unswept and unavailable for slides of consequence. Directly out front presents possibilities unlimited for those with delusions of gandeur or a sense of true adventure. Epic barrels or concrete abutments are only one decision away.

PATCH:  A field of madness and despair. A buffet of bedlam and disappointment. En-encumbered save for the lone gull bobbing aimlessly.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
”Don’t ever go with the flow. Be the flow.” - Jay-Z

Dark gray sky keeping out any sun or warmth as the wind blows against all in its path. Cold to start the beginning of this storm at 48 and temps not climbing past 52. Empty streets and open parking as most are hunkered down and batting down the hatches. Those who are storm chasers, walk through the gate out to sea, only to be greeted with hundreds of white capped hats on top of confused churned ocean surfaces. Today is a perfect day to stay inside and finished required reading.

CHANNEL:  Abandon hope all ye who enter here. W swell has nothing to say as the ENE wind is blowing at 14 knots and increasing throughout the day before rainfall starts. Messy dark green-blue ocean motion blowing sideways with white caps all around. No size, shape or form of any kind.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
”There is nothing more provocative than minding your own business.” - William S. Burroughs

Spectacular sunshine beams into the bay by way of the morning sky. Wind blows the fall colors right off of the trees and into the empty street. Today is the day, but not for surfing. High tide sloshes and splashes up the ramp and acts as a deterrent to onlookers. Swell, wind, and tide do not mix, proving what we already know to be true. Crisp air stands at 45F but looks to rise slightly. Bundle up until further notice.

CHANNEL:  Abandoned by all living creatures, too much water creates a channel too deep for even the longest paddles. No movement here but that of an overwhelmed swell. No action and no takers. Wind scrapes away the top layer and leaves behind a choppy pool. Better luck next time.

PATCH:  I don’t wanna change but I don't wanna stay the same.
I don’t wanna go but I'm running
I don’t wanna work but I don't wanna sit around all day frowning.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"To step toward your destiny, you have to step away from your security.” - Craig Groeschel

Crystal clear and still, as the sun rises in morning brilliance, running her beaming fingers through tree limbs. A bitingly cold start at 37 as we welcome December to come out to play. Holiday decorations starting to appear and as the first candles are lit this evening, set the stage for holiday cheer. Those hoping to add the first celebratory layer of salty goodness to their decor are arriving to a few open court side spots. As conversations seep like smoke when spoken, smiles and laughs can be seen. In neoprene suits we run for a fall remembering that 6 minus 1 is 5, and 5 plus 1 is six; the tribe has spoken.

CHANNEL:  High tide crashing up the ramp with aerial water spray up the wall, makes for a intricate entry. Reflection waves are rideable out to sea helping save paddle arms for later. WNW swell visible as the storm has passed and is the cleanest it’s been for a week. Waves rolling in the knee height with a fast drop and short ride. One main peek with an 8 member crew trying to remember the pecking order.

PATCH:  And here I go again on my own, Goin’ down the only road I’ve ever known, Like a drifter I was born to walk alone, An’ I’ve made up my mind, I ain’t wasting no more time, But here I go again.
