Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"We need joy as we need air.  We need love as we need water.  We need each other as we need the earth we share." - Maya Angelou

Early coastal vapors keeping the sun at bay.  Light easterly winds bring a temp of 55F to the morning.  Somewhat significant numbers registering on the NW buoys have explorers and chasers on the prowl.  Parking again becoming limited with the early crew hoping to slide a few before the work day begins.  Incoming tide providing that extra push before the swampy peak.  Sun salutations later and Jah bless the day.

CHANNEL:  A little more than meets the eye if you know where and how to look.  Rising tide facilitating Mali-Bo insiders though lesser sands keep the rides shorter than hoped for.  Almost time for a re-calibration as too much water will slow things down.  Outgoing should set a cleaned up tone in the early afternoon with NW swell numbers adequate though not extreme.

PATCH:  Mellowed surfaces with winds kept tamped down and out.  Paddlers set sights on the outside regions where water levels reach maximum density.  A rather steeper S swell may be allowed to breach the reef on higher tides but lesser rollers require the carbon jousting stick.  More a function of lacking swell vs. water levels which are ample.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Don't be afraid to go out on a limb.  It's where all the fruit is." - Shirley MacLaine

Thick foggy gray cloaking the suns warmth and rays.  50 and slightly breezy with a salty scent.  School goers lined up with lunch boxes on the ready as parents chat over coffee.  Empty parking as far as the eye can see while taking steps to the sea.  Descending on the boat ramp where the sand meets the water, watching and waiting for signs of motion.  A true Nor-Cal morning.

CHANNEL:  High water levels soon dropping with a WNW and S swell.  One main peak on the right side of Channel proper breaking in the knee high range.  Slow rolling in with a crumbling white water face.  Textured surface all around and currently one paddle boarder too far out.  With less water conditions should become more organized.

PATCH:  Textured patterns with a gathered breakfast bunch of three.  Not a lot of slabs of bacon being served, though plenty of free water is on tap.  Try putting your name on the wait list for afternoon service.  I hear there may be happy hour.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Let us be grateful to people who make us happy, they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom." - Marcel Proust

Hazy shade of Spring as the shiny sun wakes up over the hill to say good morning.  Restless calm as most retreat to habitual work week patterns.  Scattered campers mixed with dawn patrol warriors fill partial parking spaces.  Tidal swings, shifts and size with much less bulk and capacity than over the weekend.  A few leftovers are being served for those who are ocean hunters and gatherers.

CHANNEL:  SE wind swell causing ruffle and shuffle on the oceans surface as the tide drops this morning.  Confused current draining in different directions as a new WNW and NW swell journeys in.  Less energy and push then over the weekend and size is clocking in at around knee high on the sets.  With afternoon water rising, the later day may be the right time to slip and slide.

PATCH:  Half a dozen hopefuls sitting still while watching the horizon for a positive sign.  Inside exposed rocks remind feet to step carefully while coming and going.  Not much collaboration happening at the meeting rock except for playful seals trying to break the seriousness of the discussion.  Shin and knee creative ideas are being worked on outside with little creativity from the inside.  Afternoon gatherings may make for a more robust conversation.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"The environment is where we all meet; where we all have a mutual interest; It is the one thing all of us share" - Lady Bird Johnson

Big, round warm yellow magically rising above casting strong shadows below.  48 and climbing as we celebrate the one Mother we all have in common;  Mother Earth.  As we enjoy the bounty Mother Earth provides, let's all take a moment to give back and show her how much we care and love her.  Pick up some trash on the beach that isn't yours, ride a bike instead of driving and give eternal thanks while gliding and riding on the waters edge.  Today is her special day to shine bright and for us to show how much we appreciate her.

CHANNEL:  NW and S visibly insight in the knee high range.  Water draining out fast as tide shifts to a negative mid-day, then returning in the late afternoon.  Channel island revealing itself early as waters are shallow.  Parking is non-existent as early risers have already secured their spots for the day.  Practice patience while searching for space both in and out of the water.

PATCH:  Rocks and flock's as far as the eye can see as the ocean motion recedes.  Far out knees gathering at the meeting rock for quick hellos and sharp endings.  Time is of the essence, sometimes you have to go slow to move fast and the low lying fruit doesn't always make a good quick snack.  Kick back, relax and have brunch.  The afternoon may have just what you are searching for.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Everybody needs beauty as well as bread." - John Muir

Coastal clouds and fog now giving way to freshly minted sunshine and vitamin D.  Temps cooled off to 47F yet remain on the rise.  No winds at this moment in time and NE tendencies early.  Tide is on the drop to another negative in the mid morning.  A new amalgam of NW and steeper S swells still requires water levels above zero upon which to operate.  Early seekers may have scored, others must wait for later or work with what is available and attainable.

CHANNEL:  A pod sits in the Channel out on the deeper bar where depths may be procured and breakers per chance may break.  Angles of symmetry seem to be leading more to the right while sliders hope for the left.  As the tide retreats shift your focus to a new locus and re-assess your perspective.

PATCH:  Evacuating tide leaving rocks to fend for themselves.  When there was water, the S swell delivered a product that just enabled logs to get up to trimming speed.  Presently, in the absence of much need water, slimmer pickings exist for the indiscriminate.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Talent is only the starting point." - Irving Berlin

Sunny skies that can tell no lies and ready warmth at 52F.  Undeveloped winds adding to the early calm as again we are faced with extreme low tides and limited actions.  Similar NW / S swells remain dormant under lacking conditions but have come to life in the afternoon fuller tides.  The playing field is narrowed so look outside the normal realm if you seek slides in real time.

CHANNEL:  In behind the Groin wall a little bay has formed and seems to be the destination for foamie rollicking and dog romping.  Sand castles may be built and on the exposed sanctuary.

PATCH:  Top of the bottom or bottom of the top depending on your perspective.  All rocks exposed and ready to roll.  Not enough water to entice more than a lone kayaker and all log riders remain hibernating.  Afternoon knee high rides heading right are on the menu but for now Try Wait.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Learning never exhausts the mind." - Leonardo da Vinci

Calm E winds, cool temps and variable skies skewing towards blue and gold.  Dog paws in the moistened sand which covers the expanses in all directions.  Low tides below sea level confound the best laid plans as water is a vital ingredient of the pursuit.  NW windswell remains though in a more moderate capacity.  Steep angled S keeping hopes alive for afternoon invigoration.

CHANNEL:  Sand islands appear / To some it does not deter / Where are we going?

PATCH:  A lone standing rock.  A singular fisherman.  A solitary surfer.  All waiting for the tide to refill.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"We never know how high we are till we are called to rise." - Emily Dickinson

Muted overcast with calm winds and temp up to 48F.  Potential for blue resonating behind coastal coverage.  Most take the opportunity for extra rest and sleep in.  Others pedal through town and check from high vantage points hoping to tell the future.  Drained and depleted tides baring all and leaving no stone covered.  NW windswell is the main modus operandi with only the slimmest of SW swells developing.  It is an open field of play with only 1 participant active early.

CHANNEL:  Great sand expanses requiring more water fill in order to operate according to included instructions.  Seadrift shows some depth and marginal function.  Tide is making its comeback and will continue to rise all day.  Know in your heart and mind that conditions can only improve.

PATCH:  Small signs of a modest SW swell though water levels start below zero.  Right handed rollers lack power or pizzazz with no fuel to fire upon.  All rocks are calling your name and do not play well with fiberglass or feet.  Wait it out and ride later as the afternoon will have full coverage and potential.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"The best way to observe a fish is to become a fish." - Jacques Cousteau

Bright shiny yellow stretching as far as the eye can see.  Not a cloud in sight starting with a cold 41 and zero wind chill.  Packs of man's best friends paws pitter pattering and playing in open parking spaces while waiting on their alpha dog to get suited and booted.  Cruising down the boat ramp with fingers crossed for rides and slides while taking in the scenery.  Take a deep breath before taking the cold plunge, to cleanse mind, body and soul.

CHANNEL:  Blinding reflecting sun off the waters surface and warming damp sand.  WNW and SSW swell making small connections in the Channel and Sea Drift side.  A few peaks and valleys in the knee range.  Water levels are still a bit low and with time conditions should improve throughout the day.

PATCH:  So many rocks left uncovered.  A perfect setting for tide pool searching to pass time away.  As the ocean reclaims its spot in the afternoon, filling in nooks and crannies with briny goodness, lines seem like they appear to get closer.  Take some time to celebrate Taco Tuesday before getting in.  It may be worth the wait.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"You don't have to see the whole stair case, just take the first step." - Martin Luther King Jr.

Slippery streets from overnight showers with dark gray looming as bright blue tries to peek through.  Sporadic hail and rain pouring down, coming and going on a whim.  A biting 45 can be felt through layers as the usual routine commences.  Spring break has come and gone making way for school bus drivers and morning commuters.  Proceed with caution from point A to point B and always keep it at 10 and 2.

CHANNEL:  Textured windblown surface as the WNW and SSW swell are confused as to which direction to go.  Whitewater all across the Channel proper in the shin high range.  Little push and lacking in energy with no one out.  As the saying goes, you should've been here over the weekend.

PATCH:  SSW swell trying hard with all her might to come forward and not quite reaching.  Mellow lines rolling through, dark blue in color with no white in sight.  All meetings today have been canceled until further notice at the meeting rock.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"The most alluring thing a woman can have is confidence." - Beyonce

Thick and gray overhead casting a shadow in front of the sun as it rises.  A moody calm rests for now as car campers gather around Coleman's for caffeinated warmth.  Parking lot hide and seek already well underway in hopes of beating the crowds.  Sleds in all shapes and sizes humming in rhythm to a waxy tune as zippers provide the bass.  Warriors of the neoprene are on the ready to conquer the swell with blissful stoke.

CHANNEL:  Smooth and glassy sets the stage for today's performance.  WNW and SW swell working together in harmony with less gusto then yesterday.  More than a dozen concert goers claiming their spots as waist to chest rollers rift through.  The best view is from the inside center stage of the Channel.  There you will find a smooth drop before dancing your way to shore.

PATCH:  SW striking strong cords through the ladies left where half a dozen beyhive worshipers are gathered.  Its day two of swell celebration with party goers on their second wind gliding to the right side.  Join the crowd, share the stoke and feel the vibe.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Success is the maximum utilization of the ability that you have." - Zig Ziglar

Early calm and Serenity now displaced with those rubbing wax and pulling on the neoprene.  Tired, cold and sore bodies unfold and perform sun salutations and glad tidings to all.  Hot brew and deep knee bends to get the juices circulating.  Parking is scarce as many remained in place after last night's festivities.  WNW swell healthy and activated.  Temp is 47F and no signs of winds at this precise moment.  Population density reaching max capacity in the water at times.

CHANNEL:  Still the destination for the rough rider ripper crew though the magnitude has come down from last night.  Smooth and compartmentalized rollers mostly operational on the deeper Channel bar and across the pond at Seadrift.  Rollers attained up to chest high are the norm as the morning tide fills in.  Afternoon suck out may cause a rise in size though the landing areas approach fast and become very shallow.

PATCH:  A SW swell summoned and helping to form and cleanse.  Not fully functional by true S swell standards but having a big board will certainly yield results.  Incoming tide lending a bit of pep to help peaks pop.  Waist high rights will be accessible and serviceable for all Log Jammers partaking of the offerings.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Be willing to be a beginner every single morning." - Meister Eckhart

They come from far and wide this morning as the news travels distances on the coconut wireless.  Big raw NW swell thumping the coast and thrill seekers search for stoke and slides.  Again the skies remain clear and the streets cleansed. Temp hovers at 45F but NE winds will serve as both warming and grooming agent. The tide's roll and swing and will be a factor in your enjoyment today.

CHANNEL:  Heady swell finds landing sectors to dispense waves that wallop.  Filling tide adding more water to the brew and will serve to soften the blows slightly.  Light offshore winds helping to hold up sections on the left coming from the deeper bars.  Direction fairing right is also applicable but less formatted currently.  Bring a shortened sled if you want to get off your log today. Ho Brah!

PATCH:  Heaps of peaks but no longer a product of true S swell.  Overriding W pushing in on the higher tide and making for a visual attraction with moderate rewards.  Those with carbon lances sit well outside and use the extra limb to gain access and cross distances.  Mere mortals on the inner regions need to pick and choose wisely as many bumps want to break but can't or don't.  Those with the capacity to generate speed make for worthwhile endeavors.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Choose to be optimistic, it feels better." - Dalai Lama

Fully brilliant and blinding morning with no aspects of clouds and sunshine for miles.  New blooms if you take a moment to stop and look.  A drop in temp to 44F which is a fine trade off for dry weather.  NE winds puff lightly and kiss the neck with a touch of warmth.  Bo-beautiful morning in all respects.  Building swells and filling tides have a mismatched agenda in the early hours.  Again a smoothness is present upon the ocean and movements are detected and available for slides.

CHANNEL:  WNW swell angles show a likely landing zone along the Channel confines and our neighbors at Seadrift.  Wide swaths of water rollers have hit or miss latitudes as sandbar configuration has likely been modified by recent storm flow.  The right ones are available with some heading left and others heading right.  Clean by most standards and height to the chest exists.

PATCH:  Populated and pulsating with high tide undulations and S swell reverberations.  Glassy and glistening in the morning sun.  Scattered peaks randomly disseminated like sprinkled seeds.  Nearing the brim of too full which pushes the jump off zone off optimal.  Outgoing tide should serve to clean things up and waves of the waist high variety are being served.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Without a struggle, there can be no progress." - Frederick Douglass

Emerging blue on a day of predicted rain bodes well for the now and undetermined for the later.  Partially cleared skies with sunlight sentinels.  52F with no current winds and a satin oceanic facade.  Only the mid-week dedicated or non workers fill the lanes headed towards stoke.  Risen tide has hit its mark and begins a gradual drop.  Swells from mostly the west co-join and collaborate to put people on notice that getting wet is certainly an option.

CHANNEL:  Worth a stare and possibly a glare as the directional aptitude shows the capacity for rights as well as Seadrift scenarios.  Smooth and effervescent in the early muted light and displaying energy and a bit of size more than our usual suspects.  Grab your trusted sled and follow your heart into the water.

PATCH:  Silken spaces and just a few faces opting in on the high tide festivities.  Again we find long period swell rollers being well received and thank you please - I'll have another.  Bring your log as per usual, and slide your brains out as you see fit.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Any great warrior is also a scholar, and a poet, and an artist." - Steven Seagal

Dark gray overhead as more rain is coming our way today and tomorrow.  Cool at 52 with the Doppler showing rain starting by lunch time.  Rain jackets and wellington boots are the uniform of choice for the day if making the journey.  Open parking on the approach and creeks are still swollen from past rain.  Water steams still flowing down the boat ramp making for a slippery slide.  Step carefully for even those with lots of practice are taking a tumble.

CHANNEL:  As the SSW swell recedes away, a new WNW swell is slowing finding its way to shore.  Glassy surface with little energy or push across Channel proper.  One break with white water showing on the Sea Drift side in the knee range.  Long boards and even longer arms are needed to catch what the ocean is throwing.

PATCH:  Spaced out left and right bumps can be seen with the naked eye, though no A-frame white water in sight.  Calm and chill motion lulling birds and seals into a meditative unconscious state.  A long stable table for foundation is key to join the prayer circle.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"It is in the wild places, where the edge of the earth meets the corners of the sky, the human spirit is fed." - Art Wolfe

Muted blue with gray sky and a slight breeze ruffles hair on walkers by in search of sustenance.  Slow morning wake ups all around as spring breakers rejoice without early morning bus pick ups.  Open parking a welcome sight with a sense of calm from yesterday's madness.  Walking to the waters edge where the ocean meets the sand with butterflies in tow hoping for more of the same.  Only those who make the journey will find out for themselves.

CHANNEL:  Glassy and calm as the SSW and WNW swell are dancing in tune.  Much smaller than yesterday with waves rolling in the thigh to waist zone.  Organized peaks with two drop off points and five riders sharing the wealth.  Much of the same expected throughout the day.

PATCH:  Disorganized clusters of energy not sure of which angle to use and roll on through.  Using our knees and thighs for guidance, hunting and pecking along the way.  A band of brothers currently searching for the meaning with tired arms.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"It's a philosophy of life.  A practice.  If you do this, something will change, what will change is that you will change, your life will change, and if you can change you, you can perhaps change the world." - Vivienne Westwood

Starburst orange and yellow blaze across crystal clear blue sky with no rain or wind in sight.  A cool 48 gives a head start with temps climbing to 60 by afternoon.  Parking lot hide and seek games already well underway for those itching to play.  Rolling the dice hoping for snake eyes and a new pair of shoes to take home the win for the perfect spot.  Tides and Mother Nature are on our side.  Grab a friend, grab any size of board and get outside!

CHANNEL:  SSW swell in full effect this morning with size shoulder to head high.  No, your eyes are not deceiving you.  Yes, you read that right.  There is surf to be had.  Slight post storm surf as conditions are not glassy and are with brown white water.  That hasn't deterred the almost two dozen already out.  All boards of different shape and size working lefts and rights.  Go out and get em' while it's hot!

PATCH:  This is not a drill.  I repeat, this is not a drill.  This is the moment you have been training and hoping for.  Play grounds in all shapes and sizes are open for business.  Whether your a lefty, a righty or prefer the middle, all slides are open for playtime.  Line up, take your turn and remember your manners.  It's a jungle out there!

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Being upbeat is the key to life." - David Frost

Pineapple Express River system has passed through and we awake to a sedated calm.  Winds are light and actually from the NE and temp rounds in at 55F.  Still overcast and misted treetops but no rain currently falling.  Glints of sun appearing at times.  Some time to clean up and drain out will be required and roads still have water, mud and debris in their pathways.  Muddled swells from the NW and WSW await clarity and are not cohesive quite yet.  Suited and booted wall lookers set their sights and hopes on the near future and we do as well.

CHANNEL:  Count Chocula churned and brown from washing sands and pulsations of the deep.  Scattered peaks have energy if not consistent structure and form.  Outgoing tide keeping the color tinged but a settling of sediment will occur in the afternoon hours.  For now, rinse well.

PATCH:  SW windswell of magnitude attempting to break the code and gain access.  Early high tides allow for some flow but the emerging low shuttering the entrance.  Scout the deeper waters for residuals and keep an open mind and eye on the evening session.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
"Smell the sea and feel the sky." - Van Morrison

Rain coming down in sheets with the heavy stuff still on the way.  Moderate but steady associated winds from the S as expected.  The ocean is active and alive though more set on turmoil than tenderness.  Very little consistency being exhibited at the moment.  A good day to find a warm dry place, enjoyable literature, strong tea and Serenity Now.

CHANNEL:  Feeling it more from the weather and less from the NW swell as it fades out with the diminishing tide.  Unprotected and exposed to S winds, white-capped and textured all over.  Not quite the inviting expanse it can be at times.

PATCH:  Aligning itself for another time and place as the steep S grows in size and breadth.  Too much wind and too little water for current positive activities but tomorrow may be the day dreams are made of - if the storm ceases its assault.
