Within the mist, the morning has arrived. Cozy caps and wet roads remind us that there is no consistency left to rely on, however the water temperature remains warm. Spots are filling up in the yard, but there’s always room for a couple of lawn chairs. Be wary as a beach goer and know the tides like the bottom of your sock. Perigee moon has an effect on tidal movement that we all wish to understand in detail. The waves come up, the waves go down. How much more often will you come around?

CHANNEL: Set after set sneak in with little time in-between. Light winds blow through and cause little damage, but an element is missing. Little lefts are possible but shape and height are lacking in comparison to yesterday evening. Don’t live in the past, leave that to your previous self.

Though the mercury reads 61F, the BO suddenly feels a million miles from the endless summer as low pressure and fog surrounds. SW winds join the fray and while the heat relief is welcome the current sea views are hardly striking inspiration in the hearts of ready sliders. Shapes and shadows are present along with cooperative swell though the lower tide and current gusts are mostly responsible for the decrease in stoke potential this morning.

CHANNEL: A windswept swirl of sorrow with mostly whitecaps being offered this day. The steel pole stands a rigid guardian and protector of all who venture forth. A gridlock of windswell has hopes backed up for miles. As the day meanders along, increasing water levels may raise your possibility of a lunch buffet if nourishment is required.

PATCH: Unknown seekers in the grey gloom find solace in the sea though the act of doing remains questionable. There is little to sustain a sliders needs, wants and desires but some days a little is enough and that is truth today. It’s a terrible beauty to behold.

Moon slivers and no shivers as the sky turns pink and the temp rises. Full sunshine and not a wisp of wind. Fishing vessels dot a clear horizon while early sliders try to manage time and tide. A literal calm embraces the morning though competing swells contend to draw one’s attention. Unlock the secrets if you know the code but act in the moment before water levels impede stoke.

CHANNEL: Bright reflections and shielded eyes as rays careen off silken surfaces. A determined few are currently hunting and finding suitable slides on the deeper bar engagements. Well inside along the Mali-Bo corridor efforts are being made though the rewards are few. Rising water levels may close the windows now being squeezed through.

PATCH: A forlorn and lonely Patch greets the seekers and sliders while all eyes gaze upon the field of play. Meager movements stirs the hearts and rumblings can be seen in the further reaches. Those that know retreat to stretch rubber over limbs and employ trusted foam under weathered feet. Time waits for none and the time may well be now.

Daily Surf Report - 9/24/2019

Crystal clear blue far and wide with sharp tree shadow figures etched in stone while the sun shines bright in all her morning glory. Two neon green vests take up center space with three legged brackets measuring space unknown. One by one, traveling school buses take turns and give way while walking dogs guide owners around. Descending down the ramp, blinding sun reflections bounce off the oceans surface, squinting tight to see. Calm and glassy at first glance, careful not to look for too long, for the florescent lights strength will last with eyelids closed.

CHANNEL: Channel proper’s raising its full flag as the in-coming high tide is soon to crest under the shining sun. NW and mild SW swell meander on the horizon shy to make a grand entrance. Slow in energy, waves roll in the ankle height, almost enough to shoot the pole. Waiting is the name of the game and those who do will be rewarded this afternoon.

PATCH: The far outside meeting rock is camouflaged with a liquid blanket, laying flat and far reaching. Pelicans have claimed the space, circling around and diving for treats. Designated as a food court for now, look again this afternoon, for slips and slides.

Gray and thick, sitting in silence waiting for the burn off to begin as a new week ushers forward. Yellow bus pickup-ups, the first signal priorities are well underway as commuters follow closely behind. Temps remain tepid, beginning at 54 and climbing to 77 late afternoon, while celebrating pumpkin spice latte season, first hot then cold. The initial delicious sip, a friendly reminder that fall is coming while we bask in the afternoon glow. For now sit back and enjoy the still quiet of what summer remains.

CHANNEL: High tide cresting in the early hours as thick fog socks in the view. Tiny slivers of damp sand remain barely walk-able while the ocean chases the wall. NW swell no match for the rising tide resulting in sloshy sideways movement. Best to remain high up top for now and check back again with lower levels mid-day.

Peasouper haze inching low concealing morning sun salutations as dawn breaks a new day. Eerie and still, not a breath of wind penetrates statuesque tree leaves dangling high. Word of mouth rumors traveling far of misguided information, for no great big reveal can be seen from beyond the ramp. Packed in, sitting and waiting, like a cloud of disappointment, the fog is thick and the swell is still. Suited and booted, the mindset is re-calibrated while taking forward steps to sea.

CHANNEL: Foggy silhouettes sprinkle the horizon, counting to 20 before movement can be seen. The waiting room is full and the numbers are slow to be called for the next customer. NW swell rolling in the shin to knee height as the SW swell has moved on. Settle in, for there are no quick answers this morning.

PATCH: A dedicated group sit in waiting, meditating while visualizing what they yearn. More sitting than standing ocean motion remains a mystery. Questioning their position, a single line seen, only to disappear before trying. Believe in the mission and one counts for a session

Still feels like summer as the air remains mild and rays of salvation and sunlight bathe the land. Again the winds stay quiet and all tendencies blow warm from the NE. Tides remain elevated throughout the entire day and well measured stoke is evidenced early and often. Parking near nil while kayak fishing brigade descends and clogs the ramp of destiny. Something wicked this way comes, every forward we push.

CHANNEL: Early solitary figures sit atop foam and resin while others stand tallest with carbon paddle in hands. Occupying the same space is a stretch at any time and consternation is palpable as all gaze upon a clear horizon. Black clad warriors seek and search for shapes of merit and length. Those that are successful find strenuous efforts yielding the most results in lefts that form along the Channel bars. All seek justice, none will be denied.

PATCH: Many eyes scan the Patch for rumblings beyond the minor movements present. The playing field is wide open and with positive tides one can easily venture forth with most confidence. Shapes can and do reveal themselves if your inner and outer alignment are pure. Bigger logs are better but that is old and obvious advice.

Striking views from higher perches instills inspiration in the hearts of sliders. Sunlit, cool, calm and beautiful by any measurable standard. Joyous beings begin the dance with damp neoprene and achy joints to once again realize stoke and happiness all at the same time. Watch the winds, as they will show the way, and act as creator or destroyer.

CHANNEL: Those in search of a meat-n-three are being served soup-n-salad this morning. Still enough energy to foster and sustain a hungry individual but the satisfaction scale dips. Enough new swell on the radar to maintain long term interest but leave the fish in the car and bring the log out for your initial session. God only knows what I’d be without you.

PATCH: Micro peelers and faith healers meet in mid-level waters concurrently. It may seem only the need to be among the creatures of the sea that sustains these sliders but know that the stoke comes from within and around. Mild shapes inspire the swinging of arms and rotation of shoulders. Tide and time always yields benefits, until they don’t.

Early tranquility as morning descends to light the village and reveal the pathways. Still and quiet with no winds and temp holding firm at 50F. Tides relatively unwavering in their ebbs and flows so playing the wall waiting game is no option. Small swell renewal from multiple angles makes the choice both easy and hard at the same time with nothing notable tipping scales in either direction. The once crippled now stand fully erect and all almost seems right in the world.

CHANNEL: In the long moments just after dawn, the foam and glass sparkles in the fine light. Early activation by the motivated few garners salty satisfaction among the lurching lefts along the Groin bar. Steel pole lineup markers set the tone with randomized peaks around the outskirts. All seekers should be able to find some form of stoke though in heights best comporting to knee high.

PATCH: Patch Whisperers conjuring slides are warranted for the in-between minutes. Rides measured in slow yardage are the current state of the union but are enough to bring forth smiles. Periodic pulses keep the interest alive and all rocks are submerged and will remain covered until the evening low tide swing.

Buttery soft, a four legged playmate joins in on the conversation for attention. Small angled ripples off to the left in the distance, with just enough crumbling finish to work. With only one out, how can you not be eager to join in? The more the merrier, when starting with one and adding to the mix two.

NW swell a little shy, though slightly coming out of her shell, resulting in shin to knee lefts just outside of the pole. One lone worshiper out as another is almost ready. An extra paddle is all it takes to slide to the finish.

PATCH: Hit the snooze button once more and reposition for comfort. Tides hold the key to enlightenment and afternoon delight is the name of the game. Finish morning honey-do’s for play time later.

Dampened pathways hissing under radial tires with a hint of permeated asphalt floating in the air. Humid and thick, the ocean breeze is all but a pitter-patter, while the sun shy’s away behind gray. Mail truck drop-offs lined up waiting in turn for the switch over, bottle necking the exit. Resounding silence casting its blanket over our tiny town, slow to wake up. Parking is open without any takers, ensuring an easy school bus stop pickup. From atop the wall, a sense that fall is near, with changing colored hues in different directions and patterns.

CHANNEL: NW swell getting lost in translation with the churning current. Overnight atmospheric disturbances, resulting in unsettled break patterns across Channel proper. No strong peaks to hold able bodied prone paddlers, as two warriors try with all their might. Forward movement resembling wave like shapes, sluggishly roll in the ankle height. Best to hit the snooze button once more and measure again in the afternoon.

PATCH: Placid: /plased/ : - adjective - Calm and peaceful with little movement or activity. Synonyms - quiet, calm, tranquil, still, peaceful, motionless. Example: The placid waters of a small lake.

Daily Surf Report - 9/15/2019

Swirled gray mixed up in blue while the rising sun plays hide and seek with the setting moon. A settled calm for now, soon to be gone, as the great chill down begins. Scattered spaces open for business, while a handful of dawn patrol regulars peel down reaching for terry cloth coverings. Down the ramp into the sandy abyss, a single sail boat anchored sitting still on the surface. Staring to the left then right, questioning which direction to go, confused where to begin. A deep breath is all that it takes to set in motion the adventure in which you begin.

CHANNEL: Glassy surfaces with tiny white water crumbles spread out Channel proper. Low tide not doing any favors to the NW swell, as waves roll in the ankle to shin height. Little push of forward movement and sloshy beginnings, result in short rides as long as your commit to the extra paddle.

PATCH: 5 bobbing speckles on the horizon, far past the meeting rock sitting and waiting. As seconds turn into minutes, the waiting room widens and numbers aren’t being called for the next customer. Try again this afternoon when the new shift begins.

In light I shed, warmth feels like a full belly - smooth and satisfying; tranquility now brings pause as hours changed bring packed heat in dual forms. Superstition may bring halt but it is in these moments of awe that the real joy begins. A day to expand as out there and in here as days past flee into time like my own words. Today is a Friday and expectations soar but today is a number of 13, a wonder of primes that is, where shall we end if we are searching for the beginning?

CHANNEL: Forgotten as whispers written in sand are that which brings crowds running. We all saw its promise and more than usual heeded the warning. Throw the ego into the ether and that which gives you pause; this is not a day for heros but rather aliens.

PATCH: It’s the palate transformed when day chases night, the moments when - almost as smoothly as you converse with the morning light - we begin to speak in shadows. Minutes are noted by a peaceful interlude, taken over by power fading. Each to their own, it is the eyes that take pleasure - the soul nourished. Your judgements are not necessary.

A yielding calm and cool of 52F finds us this day in the village. Tides are on the rise with the starting lineups slow to reach capacity though parking is alarmingly in short supply. Opportunities remain on the menu though now served up by a short-order cook, and perhaps not quite the same chef that started the week behind the grill. The soul can still be nourished by simple foods and minor pleasures while the slider’s mind is driven towards madness.

CHANNEL: An early area of solitude and disappointment save for doggos running wild and free. Though not the huddled masses of the past 48, a mild bunch does gather to seek salvation. Initial actions are stare and contemplate options while a retreated tide mulls its comeback. Evening hollowness not evident in the morning hours but stories and tales of monuments of indulgence abound. Where will you be when the next swell hits?

Cool, pristine quiet broken by the sounds of rubbing wax and stretching neoprene as early birds seek the worm and slides while the tide still gently slumbers. Chaos reigns in these first hours and finding vacancy is near impossible. Swells regroup and advance though with newfound angles and periods of inception. Water levels are the key component this day and will have sufficiently filled by the time this report is filed in the Records Room. Winds are hushed in the moment but have the propensity to blow at the least needed times. If you fit in - get in.

CHANNEL: Low energy startup with the tide just now making its way back to level and above. A crumbling left of mild consequence makes itself known to a steadfast trio who must contend with passing minutes between, as the sun breaks free over the ridge. Keep the focused lens on the bar while the hours pass as the tidal rhythms will benefit all seekers in the long run.

PATCH: Gridlock beginning to occur as traffic backs up en route and upon the seas. You are either in the water, on the way or will be here soon as the lineup will be measured by arena seating. It will happen, with or without you and all your closest friends. Watch on the left and right and know that foam and epoxy will fly fast and free this day. Staggered sequences eventually allow you to enjoy peeling sets of heights worth savoring.

Slight confusion as this sleepy town awakes. I fear that if I tell you falsities you won’t believe me, nor would you if I told the truth. But where do we stand if the falsities I speak of are the truth? Many have read the lines and there exists no vacancy in the wee hours - one must get their pre-work dip. A coolness has settled over night; not enough for a parka but the kind that one rejoices in from knowing the grandiose yet to come. Winds that have left us stricken and sully in days past have made their pass and we bid them a warm adieu, not hoping to see them any time soon. Thus we are left with all that we want as things have changed but slightly.

CHANNEL: Channel hounds, true to form, are here for the long haul. Incoming and outgoing, they are pleased enough for a stay of many moon rises. Still packing while notables find long journeys that those desk-bound envy.

PATCH: Dual SW coming in while charts read small and long; one of these stays true true while the other does a switch. Crowds gather inside; groups of four. no five. no six. many groups of numbers sit in waiting. Not a weekend but close enough. Far out, those who seek peace practice patience with enough pay off to keep them there. What has been seeks to exist but for another moment.

Docile it is not but the madness has left this two-lane town for just a moment, allowing those who stay to ponder if it was the chaos within that left us feeling burdened. In lines we seek that which should never be uttered. Charts tell of long periods from angles that lead to glory when executed on a billiards table. This medium and friction seems to tell the same tale, rather it is different beings that occupy the surrounding territory. Up above, way up, I feel it in my bones - sunshine, sunshine - won’t you share a slice of gratitude in this fine moment and all those to come.

CHANNEL: Def. Hollow /ˈhɑl·oʊ/: a. having a whole or empty space inside. b. without value. or not true or sincere. Combine the two and understanding may come to you as a stray on your walk about. Your ability to fit inside this empty space depends on your willingness and desire. Existence is existential.

PATCH: A facade seeks to contribute to confusion far out; long period SW confuse some as they paddle far into oblivion. Don’t fall into the tricks of sight but rather reflect on what you know to be in these waters and sit tight with the knowledge that wisdom of depth is more profound than a surface of sight.

Sunlight inching over the ridge as the moon sets for slumber. Quiet and calm will have to wait for tomorrow, as cars shuffle and suck in for nonexistent space. One by one they march down towards the finish line, holding different shapes and sizes, all with the same goal. Chimichurri seaweed sprinkled underfoot, crunching on every other tread, while on the horizon, salmon fishing boats head to shore. Navigating a personal safety circle amongst the masses a futile effort, for all space is taken as more try to squeeze in. All for one and one for all!

CHANNEL: Packed in tight, with no rest for the wicked, solo rides are all but a memory. NW swell adding to the already crowded energy, in the knee to waist height. Look right and left before changing lanes and remember your hand signals while indicating direction. Patience is a virtue especially when practiced.

PATCH: Then I look at you, And the world’s alright with me. Just one look at you, And I know its gonna be, A lovely day, Lovely day, Lovely day.
