Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“Nothing in this world is to be feared… only understood.” - Marie Curie

Overcast, cool and damp as evening moisture has fallen. Skies effort to clear and already beams of sun are manifested. Winds remain light to none and temp has reached 49F though feels 47 as a chill of consequence holds while dawn fades. Parking is rapidly disappearing like the morning fog and the line-up grows in number. New swell forerunners making themselves known in bits and spurts and it is far from our standard issue mellow morn. Size is still tempered but swell grows like the deficit and should eventually inspire awe and respect.

CHANNEL: Certainly the more inviting option at this hour and putting one’s self into the mix takes no great effort. Growth is the dominant paradigm with shapes along the corridor finding all areas of accessible sandbar upon which to break. 3 feet high and rising with all manner of sleds being attempted and employed with varying degrees of success.

PATCH: Under the lower tide the far reaches provides the results one seeks so bring a good set of shoulders and strong constitution. The current shapes and forms are being subjugated by only those with paddle firmly in hand but they may be joined by adventurous loggers at some point. More tidal flow may allow for reef breach and movements along the inner regions where treasures can be mined by those determined to succeed.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you mad.” - Aldous Huxley

Moonshines under marmalade skies while the colors slowly change under kaleidoscope manifestations. Temp of 44F but warming and the girl with sun in her eyes will know the truth. Resilient swells combo from NW and SW in a collaborate effort to instill stoke. Though the crowds remain small this morn there are reasons for hope in one’s heart. Shapes do reveal themselves and patience is still a required virtue. While miles from conditions of legend, sometimes what you got is what you get, and for this let us all be grateful.

CHANNEL: The tidal ebbs and flows will allow for dips in and out with periods of in-articulation within the swings. Careful deliberation as to when and where will test the limits of arriving sliders as swells of magnitude have not appeared and what is on offer may be of questionable quality. Incoming tide may tip the balance in your favor until the lunch hour when it all shuts down.

PATCH: A single practitioner braves the isolation of the shoal while others question the judgement. Just at that moment, a small shape emerges from otherwise quiet seas and the reality is pure. Inside and marginal, yet with some appeal. One can be rewarded with worthwhile slides, if slow and low is your tempo.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“You never know how strong you are, until being strong is your only choice.” - Bob Marley

Coastal clouds and tepid at 49F. Calm with lack of wind in the early light. The mercury will rise while tides remain in flux as lack of current volume has decimated all but the most stubborn shapes. The lineup is thin in number and heavy on board size whether swinging arms or paddle with clear intent. Projected swells still days off with only mid period offerings largely from the W in play. There will be a window providing views of potential stoke but it may be fleeting or entirely illusory.

CHANNEL: Early low tide vectors have aspirations in check though a small and shapely spinner left is the draw. A right beckons on the far side of nothing and those with time to kill and one eye over the hill are extracting slides from the blue. Loggers win the day as energy and size remain marginal at best.

PATCH: Pelicans, gulls and pinnipeds patrol relatively calm waters for brunch. Even those of the paddle tribe have largely struck out though small crests of whitewater do appear at random. Give in to reality, but never give up.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“To have made even one person’s life better, that is to succeed.” - Henry David Thoreau

Light seeps through a crack in the mist as old skool hip hop still rings in the ears. A surreal mix of a determined sun and dense fog as we greet and give blessings this early hour. Consciousness has been raised along with morning temps which have reached 54F though backed by bursts of wind. Clarity is the true unknown this day but if you control the environment then the environment won’t control you. Find the inner essence and put it firmly on there on display. Low level swells, each with westerly tendencies just enough to get the body moving and grooving. Tide pulsing and reaching heights not conducive to a lasting exposition of stoke so get in early or save it for later.

CHANNEL: If the day is meant to include slides of any consequence, here is where they shall initially be found. Lesser amounts of flowing blue and medium winds should provide for a modicum of shapes to emerge. Keep a firm grip on expectations and reality, as they can slip away from you and allow for headstrong marching into uncertain seas.

PATCH: A crew upon the wall wills their way to a collective decision though heavy mental acumen does not make it so. A clear and present lack of form and figure gives rise to more waiting and debating. Once in the sea the opportunities may be better revealed under a different perspective than upon land.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“I am always doing that which I cannot do, in order that I may learn how to do it.” - Pablo Picasso

Socked in tightly with dark gray edges, no space between for sunlight to break free, dawn slowly breaks the darkness of night. Chilly temps at 44 with layers upon layers heading to shore to catch a glance for mental preparation. Down the ramp past the skunk lair, silky surfaces lie horizontally near and far. Fog horns sound from the horizon, announcing ship arrivals the eye cannot see while pelicans dance inches above the surface. With hot coffee in hand, they sit and wait from atop the wall.

CHANNEL: SW swell scoring primary position with little energy pumping through. Teeny tiny white water crumbles breaking in Channel proper with two prone paddlers exercising their arms. Trying hard with all their might, yet missing the ankle rollers coming through, as an extra paddle or three holds the secret to success. Try and try again.

PATCH: Morning meditation, perched on damp sand, seagulls huddle in statuesque formation waiting for a sign the breakfast buffet is open. No breeze to ruffle feathers nor water movement to invite them in. They stand and wait and wait some more for the first sign to enter.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“What is a soul? It’s like electricity - we don’t really know what it is, but it’s a force that can light a room.” - Ray Charles

One switched flipped far beyond town, as usual morning coffee and heat routines are celebrated with much delight. Modern conveniences back to working order as cleaned out refrigerators hum in tune and lights shine bright leading the way before the sun rises. Cash is not the only king today, for plastic may be swiped for purchase. Music will play and the clown will dance as we settle back to the way we once were.

CHANNEL: WN swell resting and taking pause while the rising sun bounces golden rays off a glassy surface. Calm and cool with temps beginning at 48, then rising sharply to 77 by afternoon. Ebb and flow throughout the day with two prime time slots open for enlightenment. Ankle bitters and shin slappers left and right, with three dawn patrol members giving it an extra paddle. Much of the same anticipated throughout the day.

PATCH: She rests in silence and peace, stretching far and wide as pelicans gracefully glide over. Do not poke the bear, for its best to allow for a slow wake up on the right side of the bed. For now sit in silence and pattern breathing with natures flow.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“You have to climb to reach a deep thought.” - Bill Vaughan

Cloaked in thick gray moisture, droplets drip slowly from power lines and objects appear before the eyes can view them. Mysterious movements form in the misty shadows within arms length as sound travels faster to the ears. Empty parking marking spaces for those who have yet to arrive, while three are full. From the ramp, ocean lapping a familiar sound, though unseen through the murky haze. Trust the process for you have the knowledge within you.

CHANNEL: WNW swell readings on buoys though the eyes cannot penetrate the thick curtains of fog. A slow burn off throughout the day, leaves everything up to the imagination. Reality is all but a faded memory, for guessing is the format of choice. Trust your gut feeling and proceed with caution.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“The best way out is always through.” - Robert Frost

Dawn breaks at a snails pace with diluted orange and blue swirled amongst wispy white cloud coverings. Tiny fishing boats spot the horizon, while large shipping vessels head to places unknown. Taking refuge from incoming high tide, atop the wall we gather. Wet sand, drenched in salt, a mushy barrier uncross-able in covered feet. Cool temps to begin at 50, a fleeting moment as temps climb to 75 by mid-day. One deep breath is all that it takes to center the soul and fill oneself with gratitude.

CHANNEL: Smooth surface, silky to the eye and cold to the touch. WN swell in no rush to roll in as ankle biter waves nip through. Two warriors out, trying to find the spot and are left searching for gold. Too much flow for dancing on water for now. Afternoon levels may provide the right tempo.

PATCH: Planted upright and still, one lone paddler stands tall motionless. No sign of rocky beginnings, for all are covered over with deep blue depths. Timing is key and the time to wait is now.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“Shine and shimmer, glory and glimmer.” - R. Smith

Crisp and still as shadows stretch and grow against muted orange and yellow creeping up from behind the mountain ridge. A chill start at 50 as Indian Summer temps climb to 75 this afternoon. Slosh tides resume business as usual with little visual difference between low and high. Only a sliver of sand remains dry, sparkling in the warm rising sun, as coffee clicks congregate on the wall for group discussion. A key moment for decision making, unsure of what may come if one waits or if one goes.

CHANNEL: Glitter sparkles off the oceans surface while hands raise and eyes squint. SW swell has left the building and NW is all that remains. Sloshy subtle movement, flowing forward without white water crumble as far as the eye can see. Little difference between tides throughout the day, results in the afternoon will be much of the same.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“Some journeys take us far from home. Some adventures lead us to our destiny.” - C. S. Lewis

Clear, windless and 46F and we jump into the breech of the weekend. All swells on the wane and kayaks outnumber surfers 3:1 which in itself speaks volumes. Those not heeding the obvious still seek and make admirable attempts at harvesting stoke. Still we set our controls for the heart of the sun and gaze towards the future with open hearts. The visions are cloudy though the air is clear but know deep inside that change will come.

CHANNEL: The shoes of the fisherman’s wife are some jive ass slippers. Theoretical windswells coagulate yet the offerings remain lackluster and unfulfilling in their output. Tidal changes are nil and therefore what is seen is what one gets. No try wait - go or no go are the only options.

PATCH: If it's a temporary lull why'm I bored right outta my skull?

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“Our scars make us know that our past was for real.” - Jane Austen

Morning meetings and happy greetings from friends and fans that can appreciate the offbeat. Clarity surrounds with distant visages becoming a reality. Skies of blue and risen sun will soon warm the airs from their current status of 48F. The asphalt is aflutter with those in various states of preparation and rumination though the seas are best patrolled by anglers as of now. Water levels remain on the high side throughout the balance of the day and only westerly swells co-joined in efforts will stimulate the marginal and temporary shapes.

CHANNEL: Outbound angles seem to be producing the occasional set wave that surprises those calmly straddling logs. A mirage it is not but also fleeting and unpredictable in its nature. The balance of the area gets a reprieve and also less in all aspects and if one desires to maintain warmth and fitness a paddle excursion may be in short order. Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“The unfed mind devours itself.” - Gore Vidal

The morning cool finds itself firmly wedged into one’s state of being as we greet a day with full sunshine. Feeling Fall in outward areas with temp down to 41F and leaves dropping while trees go bare. Parking is ample for those seeking a sample. The offerings may leave a slider’s heart and mind unsatisfied, as the regional fare is decidedly unseasoned. Little swell to spur massive activity and the water levels will dictate any available stoke.

CHANNEL: A solo sentinel sits astride foam and fiberglass and gazes upon the trawlers dotting the horizon. The dedication is admired though not unreasonable to question the decision. Those that stand tall and tote carbon fiber may fare better with the extra propulsive apparatus. Later hours may provide marginal angles on which to better attempt slides but the time is now for those that are here.

PATCH: A bit more along the lines of Kelping and Bouldering on the dropping tide as expectations don’t align with reality. The afternoon tide push will help until it doesn’t and the evening drain should fall after darkness prevails.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“I never think of the future - it comes soon enough.” - Albert Einstein

Pervasive chill holds the air as the mercury dips low and seeks 41F. Calm and cool are by-products of the changing seasons. The magical mystery bus has headed for parts unknown and beach sands have returned to their rightful place in the sea. Possibility lies just around the bend with water levels starting to show a typical rise and drop scenario. Swells bend and send and disappear as we look towards the horizon with hope for stoke.

CHANNEL: Silhouettes dot the field of vision - fishing boat, surfer, kayak and SUP at varying numbers and depths. The determined all seek the key to happiness which may only be given in small doses this fine morning. Lowering water levels closing windows through which to climb. Patience and practice will always yield results but do not let yourself be misled.

PATCH: Empty and alive with life though not of the human dimension. Acceptable levels of blue exist yet shapes refuse to reveal themselves presently. The passing hours should allow new searching to begin for a SW swell is in play and should produce both shadow and form.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“Perpetual optimism is a force multiplier.” - Colin Powell

Suspended dew drops, silver and shiny, sparkle bright with dawns rising orange rays. Bundled up in layers upon layers while the starting point of 44 digs to the core and chills the bones. A temporary moment for afternoon brings hope of fall 64 warmth. The first day of October is here, ushering in fall with turning leaves and right of way fishing boat signs down the ramp to sea. Goose-bumped ocean skin trembling in the breeze as captains navigate vessels through the Channel with full bellies to unload. Give way and respect to those who practice the time honored tradition.

CHANNEL: Small SW swell primary as the NW moves into second place. Wind movement seen on the oceans surface, a little lumpy and bumpy, with waves rolling in the shin height. Currents moving outward with the low tide soon to be changing with the in-coming. Levels too low for water activities in the prone position at the present time. Fear not, for those who wait may be rewarded for the extra effort spent.

PATCH: Flocks of feathered friends glide inches above the top just barely missing three at the meeting rock. Sitting and waiting, like ducks in a row, hoping for a sign from above with arms crossed for warmth. A fleeting moment of a line, they paddle hard with an extra push, only to remain in the spot they once were. Only time will tell if their hands or feet will bring them back to shore.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“The more light you allow within you, the brighter the world you live in will be.” - Shakti Gawain

Unearthed rock patterns from traveling sand, the lady lays high and proud. Orange yellow sun reflections on ruffled surfaces deep and blue a cold morning invitation. Seaweed scents flowing in the breeze, green and shiny to the touch of nosy four legged friends. A calm sure footed step from owners behind, dressed in layers, keeping the 49 morning chill at bay. Expansive views near and far, a familiar weekday setting as most have traveled back to their origins. A select few dot the horizon, dressed in black soul searching.

CHANNEL: NW and SW angled swell not yet reaching Channel proper in form. Textured patterns on the surface, with shin height white water foaming through. Not enough energy for those with salty intentions in the current tide. Though seals swim and play having the playground all to themselves. As water fills in, so should mole hills begin to form.

PATCH: Black speckled pixies dot the horizon far passed the meeting rock, hovering and waiting to take flight. Long pauses and restful waiting, finally momentum arrives in groups of 5. With an extra paddle and a little luck, the journey to shore is long.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“In order to attain the impossible, one must attempt the absurd.” - Miguel de Cervantes

Orange yellow rising sun peeking over roof tops as cars of every year, make and model creep in, only to discover all space is taken. Jam packed like a can of sardines, the masses stretch neoprene over exposed body parts at a fast pace, rushing to join forces. Cool morning temps, an eight reading on the white finger scale, beginning at 49 and not climbing beyond 60 mid-day. Wind is at a snails pace for now, though leaves are shaking above soon to take flight. Fall has moved in and is here to stay for awhile.

CHANNEL: Everyone and their mom is out in full force hoping to get a salty morning nugget. NW and SW working together with in the fast in-coming tide, resulting in chest close out waves. Fast on the take off, angled just right, remember to bend at the knees as the white water approaches. Keep in mind priority to the peak and practice wave etiquette.

PATCH: For the very fist time in my life, I had the pleasure of meeting three black squirrels. Because their sounds were unfamiliar to me, I just watched and listened for a while. Then I began to mimic their tones. That seemed to puzzle them. They watched and listened to me. But we all seemed to move a little HIGHER…the three squirrels to the treetops and I to blissful joy. All four creatures left wondering?

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“How can I help you? I don’t know, you called me” - Unknown

Ahhhh. What number were you calling? Call and response overhead from those on the wire and their cousins in the trees. The potato chip dipper senses a change in sunrise crispness. Expectation of blowout is defied by heart warming combo lines. Yes, that is a petite keggable nugget. Sure, that’ll move a hazardous telephone pole. Those who allowed themselves to be carried through the 1’s magical, uh, labyrinthine attraction are scoring in a Magnificent. Real magnificent way. Undulation, the idea. Beware the ways in which you fill the time between ‘em. And, if you can, answer the call, the salty potion is a castle today and remains protected for now. Cave of The Winds. Behold the Magnificent Cave of the Winds.

CHANNEL: Quepos Jetty 2.0.

PATCH: It is here. Be here. Leave your turbine, your kite, your wings, your flight, your propeller, your fall leaves, your limp airport windsock, your sails. It’s not at your back. You can spit and it’ll fall near your feet. Do not delay. Do not rush.
