Inspirational Quote of the Day:
”Don’t count the days, make the days count.” - Muhammad Ali

A fresh start to the new week commences with a clean slate and endless possibilities. Gray above as blue creeps in on the horizon and sunshine peeking through. Temps hover around 54 and reaching 68 by afternoon with a slight breeze in the air. A settled calm after the weekend warrior storm, bringing peace and tranquility with parking options for townies. Smiling faces through window pane doors as the welcoming committee waves in celebration to friends whom have returned from afar. Sheep chatter and gossip with news hoping word travels fast of their return. From the wall a glassy still surface mirrors smoky fog and lake like calmness. The time to stop and standstill has arrived.

CHANNEL: NW wind swell and wave patterns are all but a fading memory. No rush for the hurried as waves are almost nonexistent in the semi-ankle height. A handful of hopefuls in prone position trying to make the best of the situation by keeping arms in paddle condition. The two stand ups search the Seadrift side with no gains from their journey. Best to sit this one out.

PATCH: Motionless / moSHenles / adjective: not moving; stationary. Synonyms - not moving, still, stock-still, immobile.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
”What goes around comes back around again.” - Grand Puba

Ultra sonic ring tones of the mosquito variety, awake light sleepers using swatting arm movements; nature’s warning sign warm weather has arrived. Early morning gray, a temporary color and reprieve will soon burn off to warm yellow and mayhem crowds similar to yesterdays. If you don’t have a spot you’re already too late and ticket fairies are on the ready to issue. Practice patience and kindness if the salty shore if your destination, for all good things come to those who wait. Tides ebb and flow throughout the day with ample opportunity for all to enjoy everything in due time.

CHANNEL: Wind swell blown out with a hot air full of cool breeze. NW ruffled and muffled as a dozen are out traveling sideways unsure of where to go. Little forward movement in the shin height as the current is churning and burning against the wind. If a paddle workout is what you seek, come on in!

PATCH: Shake it, don’t break it. Cause I know we can make it. What you see is what you get and you have seen nothing yet. And if you’re ready to party and ready to jam, scream it out “I AM”!

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
”There is a powerful need for people to feel that gust of hope rise up again.” - Yusuf Islam

Strange how a day can begin just as the one before it - maybe even at the same time - and at first everything seems as it was but upon a second look so much has changed. There is much to ruminate in this world. Birds shriek as if they know that weekend days bring chaos to the streets - the weekend go-getters have arrived. For those who dwell longer, we have what we had in days past: envelopes of fog causing our eyes to work to see where sky meets sea. The long period S that’s been our dear companion is starting to wither as all good things must, but a SW blooms on the horizon to prolong the gems visit.

CHANNEL: Movement here, there, and even inside. A decent sandbar with enough water and a nice windswell provide these areas with potential. Sure to be swarmed with bodies as time proceeds; early and late are your friends today if you don’t enjoy people.

PATCH: A mere minutes glance shall never do anything justice. Take a moment, learn some patience, and watch before you make a judgement. Crowds are certain but if you leave the aggression on land, moments of peace will present themselves. Not pumping but a pleasant flow.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
”Well, what if there is no tomorrow? There wasn’t one today.” - Phil Connors

We wake up to how yesterday ended; so a new day begins just as the day past did and the one in the future is likely to. If time is a shape it must be a circle, but since time is the fourth dimension is the beginning always the end or have we gone too far. The fog has us pondering the widest array of things in this life but like yesterday, we expect it to evaporate and come back strong as the day unfolds. A true S speaks to us in waves; where you go to get this information shall tell you drastically different angles but one thing is true: it’s small and it’s real. Bring a long sled for your daily dosage of joy as the day is long and it intends to stick around.

CHANNEL: Hit it right and the crowdless break will bring a smile to your face - and if it doesn’t then work on your inner tranquility and try again. A juicy thigh for your morning breakfast and an agreement to continue to provide rides as tides ebb and flow.

PATCH: Staying true to form, our taste buds tingle as this S provides enough to give, take and share. The numbers on the screen don’t seem like much and neither does the view from above but in the water we throw it all away for what we have in front of us.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
”This aggression will not stand.” - The Dude

Mayhem shakes our bones awake but serenity greets our eyes. Stillness around us on land and sea as we enjoy the morning cool before the burnoff brings out the solar rays. A mid-period S tingles our senses and reminds us that sometimes the best surf are the ones that don’t bring the crowds running but instead delivers those knee high nuggets. All things given in mediocrity today but the potential for excellence is immense - there is but a single factor: you.

CHANNEL: A moments glance may bring a slip in your morning glee thus let us practice mindfulness. Close your eyes for but moments - make sense with your other senses - and when the time is right, open to find new beauty. To be more frank for those who do not subscribe to these words: no sliding in this moment. Later? Small.

PATCH: Some will look and say no; others will see and understand that for them it is the best go. No numbers clog these shores and soon to be slidable sets pulsing with just enough to have you pruned and salted. I shall never give you false promises so I leave you with a comment: remember where you are.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
”The believer is happy. The doubter is wise.” - Edgar Allan Poe

Yet another in a seemingly endless series of fog and mist shrouded mornings. The mercury insists upon 57F and the winds stay quiet as do the birds. Current water levels are cooperatively maintained at adequate heights though swell has yet to fully activate this week. Expansive real estate for parking vehicles speaks more volumes than words upon this page and loading boats signals the fishing is fine. All things in cycles and the revolution continues.

CHANNEL: A spectral silence. A beach filled with kelp detritus. A lone swimming seal. A slowly resolving left in the foreground. Beauty unlimited, potential in growing supply.

PATCH: Those dotting the horizon act as mere buoys for now as shapes and sets are only a memory. Chances, however slim, may be carried forth upon incoming tides and visages of a new SW swell. The shadows you seek may ride upon the backs of later day waters but that event maintains a plausible deniability at this early hour. A touch from a distance seems further all the time.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
”Laughter is an instant vacation.” - Milton Berle

Morning commuters head out West as a pack of runner turn South, bundled up for warmth. Temps begin at 52 with the familiar gray overlay, burning off by mid-afternoon. Empty spaces fill the void as orange cones are set in line against new posts. A gang of two telling tall tales of surf pasts can be overheard through the silence of town as the walking journey continues to the sandy shore. Calm, vast and open, lapping sounds from a lazy ocean gently brushes crystalized seaweed from tides high swing. Not a soul in sight, a private beach stretches out for all to enjoy for those in the taking. Surf is placed on the back burner as we marvel in the beauty of nature.

CHANNEL: Well, seems as though we are stuck in a flat, glassy pattern of no forward ocean motion. NW swell at a stand still with no sign of white water A frames. Seadrift side in solidarity with Channel proper as the pole claims king of the mountain. Best to cop a squat and enjoy the view from shore.

PATCH: Plenty of water filled in, yet no movement forward as seagulls sit quietly, resting on the waters edge. Reach for crystals deep down in pockets and arrange for cleansing while setting intentions.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
”Life isn’t a matter of milestones, but of moments.” - Rose Kennedy

Hissing streets damp, covered with fallen thick foggy mist, announcing cars before they can be seen making their way to destinations unknown. A slight breeze tickles tree limbs as morning feathered friends sing in tune. New fence posts stand tall mapping out the parking trail along the tennis courts, wide open with no one partaking. Through the gates to the sea, furry friends take off in delight enjoying the vast empty sandy shore. A foggy blanket hugs the outer edges leaving no space for yellow light to shine through. Mother Nature has pressed the snooze button once more as the ocean remains undercover.

CHANNEL: The pole stands alone with sand all around and no wave in sight. NW swell nonexistent with no wave of any size, shape, nor form. Tidal swings at a snails pace throughout the day leaving little to the imagination for what may come this afternoon. Best to glance at the list of to-do’s and complete a few and check again tomorrow.

PATCH: Stillness / stilnes / : Noun : The absence of movement or sound. Example: Absolute stillness greeted our gaze.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
”You’re only given a little spark of madness. You mustn’t lose it.” - Robin Williams

Thick and misty gray socked in, too dense for the sun to break free as dawn breaks a new day. Sleepy and quiet for now, our tiny town presses snooze once more before wiping the sandman away. Overnight guests pack parking spots leaving little room for incoming ocean warriors with salty intentions in mind. From atop the seawall, SW and NW swell reach a moment of detante and retreat along the horizon leaving a vast open flat space. Sand beach games are the name of the game on this day of rest.

CHANNEL: Bring a frisbee, pack spike ball and lunch, for the ocean has turned the switch to OFF. No forward movement resembling ocean breakers in any form and no white water in sight. One lone fisherman stands in Channel proper wading and casting his line. All other activities for the day are land focused as Mother Nature is giving the ocean a day off.

PATCH: A quagmire rocky shore vacant and damp reveals lost fins from swells past. Sweet memories of rides and slides, a visual reminder of what once was. Gone are the dirty dozen who filled the line up and all that remains is a calm, flat surface. The out of order sign is posted on the playground and the slides are broken. Try again tomorrow.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
”Your mind is like a parachute: if it isn’t open, it doesn’t work.” - Buzz Aldrin

If you come from afar, drive into the haze of obscurity or, if you’re like us, wake up in the familiar unknown. The sky acts as the sea today as both flow from a stupor to moments of clarity and back once more. Our dear SW hangs on like the grip of a gecko while the WNW windswell sends mixed messages - adjust your antenna and in the right moments the signal comes through. Today we travel back to a day 50 years earlier as the ceiling of what we believed was possible shattered; it is in this moment that we believe we can accomplish all that we are told is impossible. Today is a day to share a smile.

CHANNEL: Bring a beater or a boogie and your lowest expectations. Double bumps deceive even the wisest among us but the ankle biters have the potential to tap into forgotten childhood glee over the smallest things in life. As time moves this too shall tell a different story - I tell only what my eyes see and I cannot see the future.

PATCH: I’ll meet you past the meeting rock for a moment in time; there we shall ride that which has not broken for the 5 second joy of sliding on a medium of kinetic energy. But mostly we will just sit and stare at the monumental beauty around while we wait for later. It is then that we are promised more water, and with it, if we take out our longest log we may just get the knee high ride we never deserved.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
”It will be millions of years before we’ll have any understanding, and even then it won’t be a complete understanding, because we’re up against infinite.” - Paul Erdős

Water levels sit so low, our minds begin to wander….Time reminds us of the ebb and flow - of all the things outside of our control - and of the way the human mind uses numbers to make sense of the chaos of these cosmos. Winds rush onshore creating nothing to what little something we grasped to. The fading SW still hangs in, though with the time and place we may miss our date; there remains hope with the WNW windswell but only vaguely as we read what we see and listen to what we are told, all senses have us scratching our knees. Alas, blankets of fog have us reaching for a shining cup of coffee, wondering what else we may do for a moment.

CHANNEL: Please go dream a dream; I hope it is a lovely dream. And when you wake, I hope you are so content inside that you need not seek for more than what lays within.

PATCH: A wonderful moment to study those rocks that you will evade once more when water levels rise. Few dedicated souls showcase that it is not the act, but the attempt. Patience is key. Think low; think log; think later.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“I talk about the gods, I am an atheist. But I am an artist too, and therefore a liar. Distrust everything I say. I am telling the truth.” - Ursula K. Le Guin

Actions of chaotic cohesion appear on land and sea, reminding us what it means to be consistently inconsistent. On land cars pack the lots only to be vacated mere minutes later; it is unknown if it is life that calls or dissatisfaction that causes them to run. But we come for the sea and are reminded to never get accustomed to brilliance - it is a gift. SW swells fade as light rises and falls, but there is always a new day and no one sees a good surprise like the sea. For more useful, irrelevant information, I shall leave your imagination with a moment of words: fog rolls over head being accompanied by mist everywhere and nowhere but the light our eyes catch speaks to sun rays stronger than anything else around. The hopes and dreams of yesterday were big, where shall you sit today?

CHANNEL: A lovely location to dip your toes in the sand, begin your new hobby of bird watching, and reminisce about days old and gone. Can’t play in the sand box when there’s no sand in the box. Expand this and you shall understand everything.

PATCH: A funky dance peaks after yesterdays evening. A new day on the rise with lines to be envisioned but the lack of water makes us rely on our imagination. The potential exists but for now, enjoy a cup of something warm and wait for better hours.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“Behind the cloud the sun is still shining.” - Abraham Lincoln

Negative low tide, moderate S winds and a cracking SW swell make an early unholy trinity for those pursuing stoke. The mind seeks to clarify unlike the skies above which remain grey. Parking spots filled with reckless abandon as we attempt harvests from the ocean’s summer bounty. Neoprene is stretched over aching joints and corners. Conditions not the optimal that last night brought but there will remain reason for optimism and smiles with raised expectations likely being met. Time to allow for filling and calming must be accounted for before the real shredding begins. Don’t walk away in silence.

CHANNEL: With forlorn gazes we encounter nostalgia for moments recently passed as only the solitary marker stands firm. Where hours ago breakers flourished, now only an uncanny stillness remains. Do not set your morning sights here unless you wish to escape the crowds and carry a yogi’s patience and resolve.

PATCH: Those with paddle in hand are the first line of defense as the breakers show a lengthy distance from the craggy shoreline. A determined and dirty dozen have dispersed to field any and all rollers that form a shape of note. As is always the case, do not neglect the tidal timing or sliding rhyming, as this will unlock all doors today. Low tide doing no favors but after the mid-day meal we attain levels suitable for action.

“To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe.” - Anatole France

Light gray quilted patchwork patterns above as the sun peeks through the edges. An easy breeze for now with anticipated gusts beginning by afternoon as temps set the stage at 57. Word on the street has traveled fast over tin can stringed telephones alerting those who are in the know. Unusual incoming car activity carrying sticks up top with drivers hoping the gossip is true. The usual empty Tuesday parking is full with warriors on the ready with fresh bars of wax in hand. No need to walk for a check to see with eyes; trust your gut feeling.

CHANNEL: Foggy atmospheric smoke on the water creating an optical illusion of near objects far. Low tide slowly filling in, with too little water to reach full stoke potential. SSW swell lines on the horizon, rolling in knee high range with a glassy face. More water is need to quench the thirst of right sided slides. Patience is key.

Court side vacancy a key indicator the working week for most has begun. For the chosen few who journey to the edge of the sandy shore, a warm moment of reprieve. Take a moment to be still, breathe deep and become rooted.

CHANNEL: Glassy and sparkly, the ocean surface beams with light from the sun. SW swell showing on the horizon, yet not rising to the occasion as of yet. Incoming tide starting to fill in with forward movement ranging in the knee height. No visible peaks or valleys, formations are quick to crumble into white water soup. Long sleds the vehicle of choice and yours for the taking as no one is currently out.

PATCH: Dip dip dive, to the socialized. Issued rhythms that are on the rise. Step right up, with an opened circuit. Get this current, don’t you know it’s worth it. Presented intricity, compared with vibe electricity.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“Perpetual optimism is a force multiplier.” - Colin Powell

Layered iridescent rainbow hues painted high as the stick marching band rolls in. On the hunt for nonexistent space, they multiply and wait with indicators flashing at a rapid pace. Overnight guests in creative homes rally with the sun and make their way to the wall, coffee in hand, one foot in front of the other. Conversations brew with ideas percolating, filling thought bubbles into reality and eventually spoken words. As we bid adieu to south swell, gone but not forgotten, we welcome back the usual ankle summertime scene.

CHANNEL: South swell has vanished into oblivion, leaving the incoming NW sluggish and lazy. Ocean motion rolling in ankle height on the sets with a dozen out asking, “is this it?” Seadrift side marginal by comparison leaving most questioning if it’s worth the extra paddle. What you see is what you get, so make the most of it and always remember your surfing etiquette.

PATCH: A bakers dozen of stand up paddlers, gazing out to the horizon in complete stillness. No bobbing, nor forward motion of any kind, anywhere. Prone positioned seekers doing their best at keeping a PMA by walking in the opposite direction. Tide charts say go, yet Mother Nature has other plans for the sea today. Best to wait and seek again in late afternoon with fingers and toes crossed.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“Think left and think right and think low and think high. Oh, the thinks you can think up if only you try!” - Dr. Seuss

Heavy blankets trap us from escaping a warm bed and the fog does the same to our cozy minds. Break out from this nonsense and poor yourself a cup of coffee and another of inspiration for the day. The Saturday crowd has yet to appear, but stranger things have happened. Incoming tide may be the little extra push that we need to get out the door, so duck your head and avoid the peaks.

CHANNEL: Boats zoom in and out, using the channel for one of it’s truer purposes. Lack of wind is helpful to all participating, and pleasing to those who observe. Shin High shenanigans taking place with plenty of room to spare. It’s a narrow alleyway but sharing is caring. A break for one, a break for all.

PATCH: On a far away island of Salamasond
I said, Yertle the turtle
Was king of the pond
A nice little pond
It was clean, it was neat
The water was warm.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“In all chaos there is a cosmos, in all disorder a secret order.” - Carl Jung

We rise to misted skies and damp visages as the early airs are deeply shrouded in fog. A determined sun may yet shine through but that will be for the later day applicants. A calmer and glassed off ocean invites all who seek slides though energies have be redacted and now resemble our usual suspects. This may just be a momentary respite as new composite swells are aligning to invigorate once again. Those with true hearts should find suitable breakers but the hunt will be a little more involved.

CHANNEL: This space may well be the place as variants show in a widespread range. Morning incoming tide now make MaliBo a suitable option until the change cuts the power. Efforts will not go unrewarded this day and though the breakers are far from epic they do propel one forward and allow for a degree of turn and ample glide.

PATCH: Peaceful prophesies this morning, with an impenetrable calm. A handful of sliders drinking it in and digesting the opportunity. Nourishing though not overly filling leaving one wanting only more. A little line or two may be just past the horizon and not quite formed enough to make itself known.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“For those who are willing to make an effort, great miracles and wonderful treasures are in store.” - Isaac Bashevis Singer

A fine and almost baptismal mist under grey foggy skies as we begin again right where we left off. Temp steady and ready at 58F with hopes of clearing skies to warm the day. The zephyrs are currently calm, but may look to have other plans for the afternoon. SW swell slightly diminished but still with positive actions and intentions upon the rising tide. All manner of humanity seeks the same nourishment that you do so tread lightly and work together in phases to achieve your personal nirvana.

CHANNEL: An organized and efficient bump in the water spinning some glassy cylinders off in the murk. Smooth lefts off the re-fabricated Channel sandbars have riders seeking slides that reveal all the shapes a hazy morning can deliver. Past the peak tide has Mali-Bo on hold until the evening sessions but the Groin bar churns out adorable peelers being neglected for the deep and bigger options. Early pod of 6 sure to grow in number as the day grows long.

PATCH: What about that time? You were rolling over, fall on your face, you must be having fun. Walk lightly, think of a time. You best believe, this think is real. God help us, help us lose our minds. These slippery people, help us understand.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“Nature is painting for us, day after day, pictures of infinite beauty.” - John Ruskin

A muted calm under coastal clouds as the winds relent and the temp climbs to a muggy 61F. Buzzing energy in the lot as word spreads far and wide regarding new swells of long period. The time for enlightenment is now and should last into the darkest of hours. Take heed brothers and sisters and understand that the need is immediate and distant, all at once.

CHANNEL: Early Mali-Bo dreams now turned off by the switching of tides. A smoothness upon the seas brings a smile to faces after choppy waters that plagued yesterday. First glances will fill the soul with possibilities as the shapes reveal their true nature. Those studying close will realize the lengthier rides while those sitting deeper may enjoy the larger drop. All tides are welcoming and there is no height limit to ride.

PATCH: Loggers settling in for the day as the early action dictates plenty of slides on tap. Those with the strongest shoulders and constitution should outlast the light if breaks and fuel are managed correctly. The shapes and shadows you seek are well in evidence and graciously spread throughout the area to best take advantage of changing bottom contours. The time is now and later.
