Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out.” - Mark Twain

Hazey gray masks iridescent sun as dawn breaks welcoming a new day. Wind at a standstill for now, as mild temps begin at 52 stretching out to 64 by afternoon. Missing flip flops remain a mystery with hopes of their return diminishing as each day passes by. Wool slippers the only choice of footwear, marching forward towards the sea hoping to find answers to unknown questions. Atop the wall all answers point to yes, before knowing even what to ask. Welcome home my friend, it has been ages since you’ve last visited.

CHANNEL: Textured surface with currents strong running through Channel proper. Just past the pole, the SW swell is starting to join the party in full swing dance mode. Half a dozen two steppers busting a move on thigh high waves while hootin’ and hollerin’. Tides swing low mid-day leaving another opportunity late this afternoon.

PATCH: Party over here and a party over there. Inside, outside and everywhere in between. Plenty of space for break dancing and modern interpretive dance with flat footed fancy for all.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“Always be a little unexpected.” - Oscar Wilde

Sunbeams lemon yellow, crest over hilltops casting warm morning shadows as village critters scatter with delight upon entrance of the golden hue. A strong breeze floats on by, dancing with runaway hair tucked loosely into flannel buttoned up halfway. Traveling homes have gone else where leaving open spaces and places to breathe deep. Thermometer readings beginning at 53 and climbing to 64, the usual summertime math. A settled calm, after a week long frenzy of visitor crowding and celebration, has returned and it’s business as usual for those who are rooted.

CHANNEL: West winds ruffling the surface creating spray off the back. Strong churning motion in Channel proper at mid-tide with white water soup to shore. NW and SW swell at odds with each other with waves circling in knee height on the outside. Afternoon windows may be the best opportunity for those with salty cravings.

PATCH: Far outside, squinting to see, as we look below our knees. Three is the magic number as we sit and wait, and wait some-more.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“Sometimes it’s worth risking it all for a dream only you can see.” - Megan Rapinoe

Gray overlay returns as the silence has broken with the marching sound of four wheels rolling by. The hunt for parking has begun and most are left idly waiting, longing for space. Feeling the cool down and drop in warmth, 53 to start and 64 to end, pants and layers pile on. For some, the final day to close out independence celebration and for others, a day of intense watching as women gather wearing red, white and blue in France to claim the world title. Whether you find yourself on the sandy shore or landlocked on the couch, don’t forget the soccer ball.

CHANNEL: Muffled and ruffled textured surface leftover from last nights wind storm, NW and SW swell are slow to wake up. Swell size down considerably from recent days past, combined with mornings low tide, waves are slow to roll in knee height. Spread out far and wide, with no peaks or valleys, stand up paddlers claim territory. More water is needed in order to slide towards shore starting in prone position. For now, sip come coffee and wait for the open window.

PATCH: Rocky and sharp, even for the sure footed and booted. The meeting rock proudly stands waving the white flag, a key indicator the time is not now. Fill your belly as the ocean fills in and both will be satisfied with the outcome.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“Write about what you’re afraid of.” - Donald Barthelme

Who is Barbara? If not a maritime bankruptcy lawyer, is she the cause or effect of parking spaces diminished? Is she the patron saint of waterlogged Quaker Oats, interim high priestess of immense pacific bathtub, or mighty exacerbator of preexisting undulating tendencies? Without Barbara, would the visit be a mistake? Is Barbara allergic to peanuts in addition to landfall? What did she see with her calm, cataract-laden eye? Diminished or no, has she turned salt to sugar irresistible, coaxing homo sapien from its warm weekend home? Will she reward many a soaked vanishing point analyst? Where is Barbara going? Summer Queen, Summer Queen, Summer Queen! Bring your tubes of sun and moonscreen, for she may wave her goodbye and swell with new life and levels later.

CHANNEL: Ba ba ba ba Barbara Ann / Ba ba ba ba Barbara Ann / Ba ba ba ba Barbara Ann (take my hand) / Ba ba ba ba Barbara Ann / Ba ba ba ba Barbara Ann / You've got me rockin' and a-rollin' / Rockin' and a-reelin' / Barbara Ann / Ba ba ba ba Barbara Ann (try high tide).

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“Everyone should be respected as an individual, but no one idolized.” - Albert Einstein

Under dark and foggy skies the aftermath is revealed. Sulfuric tang in the air while the bunting sags and the debris bins overflow. Camping of all manner and place shows where the party ended at least for the time being. Those hoping for an early start have most of their dreams dashed as the breakers drift away on the receded negative tide. Limits of patience and fortitude will be pushed but the sweet days of summer are long and the sun will soon shine while the tide always makes a return. SW swell weakens but still effective post lunch and into evening in all areas known to support sliding. Contrary to observed activities - etiquette must be rigorously observed.

CHANNEL: Sandbar exposure and to remain uncovered for the next few hours. Groin pole stands alone as a silent sentry watching over the lack of action. No crustacean or fowl to be seen as dogs freely romp along the edge where water meets sky. Rumors abound about sand and paradigm shifts. Wait out the tide and see for yourselves.

PATCH: Yet again we awake to rock revelations with no coverage along the inside until the PM hours. Those floating freely are well outside along the meeting rock region and offset from the typical landmarks. SW swell yearns to express itself but doesn’t yet have the water available to show the wares. Bobbing about early with actual surfing later in the day.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“This nation will remain the land of the free only so long as it is the home of the brave.” - Elmer Davis

A summer fog tamps down expectations of the explosive celebrations set to occur. Winds are completely calm and the temp initiates at 55F. The early tranquil hours will soon be shattered by the swelling population long ago settled in for the duration. The early battles will not be waged upon the sea as the low tides have seen to that, but across the Channel where tugs of strength will set the records straight for another year. SW swells still active and pulsating but requires the time to allow for a plus tide to appear. Settle in for the day’s experience as it helps to cultivate the future.

CHANNEL: A bottomed out tide has reached zero and then gone next level below. Pools of trapped water surrounded by acres of sand is all that remains. Seadrift exposures can moderate the lacking conditions but ultimately water is required to unlock all the secrets. The answers may become evident as the day grows long.

PATCH: You’re standing waiting. You’re hesitating. You’re thinking maybe … well, I don’t know. You’re nerve is breaking. You’ve started praying. But still you’re staying…. and you don’t know for what.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“If everyone is thinking alike, then no one is thinking.” - Benjamin Franklin

A current calm settles over the village as preparations for mayhem outweigh serenity. 50 year storm swell Bohdi style yet to fully materialize but the coconut wireless buzzes with dispatches. Fully showered with sunshine, light S winds and impending warmth and parking is already at a premium, and will remain that way all weekend. Though the ocean tells so many of us what we already know, the message does not find purchase in the minds of the determined this fine day. Extreme negative tide dictates the story line. Holiday vibes are upon us and the generous SW swell needs time and water to regroup. Know which experience you seek and find it justly.

CHANNEL: Islands in the stream. That is all we are and can be in the early hours marked by minus tide water levels. Spiraling jetty vectors as large patches of sand are all that is visible. Higher water levels do hold promise and potential, but only time will truly tell.

PATCH: The masses play well outside the marker rock as the inside is a lunar landscape. A quality calm and manufactured stillness is only marred by the amount of humanity and the lack of available, consequential slides. A true test of timing and willpower is what you will find on tap. Hours must pass before an acceptable filling has occurred and the magic turns back on.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“I have amazing news for you. Man is not along on this planet. He is part of a community, upon which he depends absolutely.” - Daniel Quinn

Sweet sweet summertime has us jumping into our suits as we do not wish to waste a moment. Lines flow easily with the new hurricane swell making it’s first appearance. Incoming tide is giving it that little extra boost that it needs to be just what we want. Size is lacking but sunshine is not. Clear and open skies paired with extensive land exposure create a sandy dream for beach dwellers. Remember to bring your sunscreen and straw hats.

CHANNEL: Less than no action in the Channel. A pair paddle and ponder in thought, and we also wonder: what are you doing here? The choice is obvious on this sunny summer day, so make the right choice, it’s the only choice.

PATCH: Is this magic? Am I seeing clearly? Lines stretch for what seems like miles starting out past the meeting rock and flow into the shallows despite rock exposure. Wait for a set and find waves that roll in an one after another at knee height. Plenty have found this morning oasis, and the window for opportunity is wider than usual. Fresh swell provides plenty of push for your log with the incoming tide. Be there or be square.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:

“Carry out a random act of kindness, with no expectation of reward, safe in the knowledge that one day someone might do the same for you.” - Princess Diana

Hide and seek is the name of the game as we count to 10 before finding the sun. The holiday countdown to Independence Day commences as we begin the week in celebration mode. Work flow ebbing back as more visitors arrive claiming space in alternative vehicles resembling mini homes in disguise. Meandering a top priority this morning, as most sip coffee in slow motion while gabbing on. Friends with four legs chase down the ramp hopeful to find treasures far beyond as owners fall behind and follow. Beyond the wall, the palapa rises like a phoenix from the sand, the key signal, summer has officially begun.

CHANNEL: Calm and glassy surface far and wide with a shin high rollers moving in every other minute. NW swell on stand by for now, as we gear into summer time swell patterns. Three amigos to the right of the pole crouching low trying to extend the push of the petering swell just one more inch. Walking back to the starting line in thigh high water, nothing is better than starting a Monday wet and salty.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:

“Love is never wrong.” - Melissa Etheridge

Lurking behind gray thick shadows, the sun casts no outward shine for now. Gone are spaces for those who arrived early with intentions to catch the worm. Left running in circles with no where to go, while hurrying up to wait once more. Cooler morning temps begin at 53 climbing to a peak of 64 with clouds visiting throughout the day. Morning marchers of skunk, fox and racoon varieties join forces in solidarity for World Pride Day as proud rainbows shine on in celebrations near and far. So let your unicorn fly high and your sparkle shine bright, for love is love is love!

CHANNEL: Welp, after all that, here we are standing on the sandy edge wondering what do we do now. NW swell ankle high on the sets with no force trailing behind. A few hopefuls flailing not catching the drift of what the ocean is dealing. Know when to hold em, know when to fold em, know when to walk away and know when to run.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“My fault, my failure, is not in the passions I have, but in my lack of control of them.” - Jack Kerouac

Hurry up and wait. Spaces to be occupied by your four wheeled mutated horse have already been significantly diminished. A cool and clear morning seeks to open up to more intense rays as time moves forward; and as always, absurdity sneaks in a laugh as it tags along. Depending on where you look and what you listen to things may be drastically different. Today, we rely on science. Both a WNW ‘n a NW windswell line their way up in short, lofty setting. Nothing in abundance but humans. Predictions lay on the meager-scale (individually written) can be read in the sand but a pep in the step gets you in the right direction.

CHANNEL: Here. It is here our body occupies space, allowing our mind to travel to far off places. Ride-able ‘n slide-able as windswells send out pulses that fall like butter on a warm summers day. Many sand, and much humans leave one deciding how many is too much for what you’re given.

PATCH: A slumber is necessary before all events kick off. Laying dormant for the moment as the sun cycles around the sky. A secondary push may get you a moment of fame but try patience. All good things come in time - time extending past today.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“Either you repeat the same conventional doctrines everybody is saying, or else you say something true, and it will sound like its from Neptune.” - Noam Chomsky

Gifted another glorious day in the making as the sun lightly soaks the skin of those up early, while the wind stays motionless for now. Temps please us with only prospects of rising, while a breeze seeks to keep us content, though the cards promise for a rise in strength before petering back down to a simmer once more. A steep WNW windswell sends short pulses, while our S friend stays true and wee. Opportunities are the name of the game today, but appreciation for the little things in life remains key to success.

CHANNEL: Peelers rolling through at shin scraping heights but rising tides leave us smiling. If one does not know their left follow the right, but if the right is unfounded, go left. Maybe the only place to be for the moment but all prospects are possible. Please rescind your plans if you are not happy to share. If indeed you are, approach with joy.

PATCH: Reading cards and lines once more. A lone paddler stands tall, maneuvering in circles before aimlessly heading out to sea. What we see is not what we came for, but what is yet to come brings us hope. Before - yes. Not now. Maybe later.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“Life is a comedy to those who think, a tragedy to those who feel.” - Jean Racine

A sight to see beyond our fingertips for yet another morning repudiating June gloom expectations. As for predictions of oncoming time, if yesterday was anything to tell, no weather predictions or even what’s in front of us seems to be of truth. In regards to what we truly come here for, a SW seeks to dip slightly as moments skip forward, yet its strength regains promptly; and continuing the trend of a WNW windswell to give us some reasurrance for those who still hold their breath. As always, remembering where you are will get you far and throwing all expectations out the window will leave you with a sense of satiation.

CHANNEL: Blinders on as individuals blubber around, scrambling for sunscreen and the chance to grab a knee. High sand levels, medium water intake and high energies promote disorientation. Any and all opportunities. Slides are possible for those with dreams.

PATCH: All individuals choose their meager-scale. Reading the lines and everything inbetween, our senses understand that now and in the near future, all systems are a no. Wisdom reminds us of times with water though, allowing our spirits to remain afloat for all that is yet to come.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“The secret of happiness is to count your blessings while others are adding up their troubles.” - William Penn

Airs of warmth and no chill with the mercury already at 63F. We gaze expectantly along the coast for signs and signals during first light. While a steeper S swell will eventually make itself known, the early hours show no tokens. Tides play to our favor and parking has not yet reached capacity. Today may be one of self-assessment and appraisal but these truths will not be revealed in current water levels. The charts and times are always key and today is no different. Step inside, this is the way.

CHANNEL: Shining bright as the sun crests the mountain and sparkling on little spinners along the path. A resolute quiet as the winds do not blow and yards of sand stretch wide and even. Bits of driftwood mark the passageway and stoke may be elusive but is out there for the true seekers.

Early morning conversations flowing freely while the rising sun lights the way. Yellow spotlights of warmth highlight new town members of the skunk variety huddled together walking in packs. Overhead new shoes dangle tied tight bearing resemblance of homemade welcome banners of summertime fun. Down the street and through the gateway entrance open space for all to play. Crunchy warm sand under bare feet breaks the silence of the oceans calm. Planted in stillness and taking a moment to let it all in.

CHANNEL: Buoy readings of NW and SW swell, though not materializing in reality. Mid-tide is the right side, though no push coming through Channel proper. Waves slowly rolling in shin height with two morning prone paddlers trying hard and missing the beat even though the sleds are long. Happy hour might return this afternoon, for now enjoy the sun.

PATCH: Horizontal: / hor-i-zon-tal / : adjective - Parallel to the plane of the horizon. At right angles to the vertical. “a flat horizontal line.”

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“Knock the ‘t’ off the ‘can’t.’ - Samuel Johnson

Overclouded gray socked in as we return to our regularly scheduled weather patterns. Chill temps begin at 50 and remain much of the same throughout the day. Silence blankets the streets as weekend visitors have dispersed, leaving open spaces for familiar faces. The tried and true have returned and celebrate the calm by sneaking in at dawn before the tide recedes mid-morning. A wise man once said, no right nor left, just over. Ya, it’s kinda like that.

CHANNEL: Mid-level tide resembling chicken skin bumpiness from overnight winds with little form and push. Mixed up and churned, the NW swell is dwindling leaving slow motion power and no A frame in sight. No one out except for the seals searching for morning breakfast treats. Try wait and take a glance this afternoon.

PATCH: Silence is golden as footsteps trace back to where you started. A moment in time etched in the mind and soul. Reach for the crystals and recharge with intentions of slide progressions and hope for tomorrow.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“The potential for greatness lives within us all.” - Wilma Rudolph

Rising yellow sunshine casting shadows of warmth as birds chirp with delight. The parking lot parade has commenced and will continue all day as spaces are at capacity leaving new arrivals circling in a never ending pattern. Tides falling low this AM leaving one window left open mid-day for those who seek the perfect opportunity. Dawn patrol warriors return from first light sessions as most are left in waiting to get suited and booted. From atop the wall, coffee cliques are scattered in deep discussion and thought bubbles. Timing is everything and the time will come to those who wait.

CHANNEL: Low tide coming in hot leaving those who want to slide cold. Nowhere to go, nowhere to hide left or right with the dropping tide this morning. Crumbly remnants of white water sluggishly moving forward against the outgoing tide in ankle height. NW swell sleeping in and pressing the snooze button all morning long. As the tide turns mid-day, most are hopeful rides and slides will materialize.

PATCH: A bakers dozen parked far outside the meeting rock hoping to stay afloat without breaking fins. Most bob for apples and for a select very few, a short ankle bitter in toe. Tempting as it may be to join the conga line now, more water is needed to quench the thirst.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“Every man has his own destiny: the only imperative is to follow it, to accept it, no matter where it leads him.” - Henry Miller

Sun beams down on the beach with no fog left to nebulize. Full summer morning in effect here as the temperature is already 61F and climbing. Perfect weather for some solar res ding repairs. Smiles are a plenty but the parking is not. Weekend celebrations have commenced and the festivities are in full effect. This morning’s window for surf might be passing you by at this very moment. The evening’s may be worth waiting for. Though never good enough to skip the big 4-0.

CHANNEL: Low and a no-go. Use your eyeballs to be the real judge. What do you see?

PATCH: A packed crowd shares a peaceful morning before the flocks come. Seventeen out there now passing the banana peel for their chance to slide down the knee high attractions. Low tide is due soon so be wary and just be smart. No water means no waves.

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, others make it happen.” - Michael Jordan

Summer solstice in effect so an opportunity to take advantage of extra daylight during the longest day of the year. Initially we start overcast and at 57F with steady but restrained S winds. Sun has been taking its sweet time making itself known and expectations are the early afternoon hours to visualize. Swells have been recharged overnight but morning low, negative tides crushing the options. It is nebulized reality that must be dealt with accordingly and that requires a waiting period for water re-emergence.

CHANNEL: Emptiness save for the lone marking guardian and his exposed concrete wall. Water too low, no can go but keep an eye on the prize and a nose to the wind as seasonal changes are in the air. Foamie brigade in the froth searching for stoke but finding it in short supply.

PATCH: An abandoned coastline with nary a mariner in sight speaks volumes more than our words here can describe. Impending SW swell due to arrive at any time when water levels are +1

Inspirational Quote of the Day:
“Always seek out the seed of triumph in every adversity.” - Og Mandino

Stoke potential is palpable based on one’s evening experiences. In the moment we only have ourselves to contemplate inwardly as all water and then some has vacated the premises. The early winds do no favors either though temps have climbed and now reach 57F. A genuine quiet wasteland is revealed in all corners that will last a few hours or more. Research the lunar ebb and flow if you want the best intel on when to strike and achieve total consciousness.

CHANNEL: Depleted, deserted, deteriorated, depressed.

PATCH: Rock lobster, octopus garden, tide pools and rocks until after the lunch hour.
